Ugh ugh ugh. I hate giving this game this low of a score, I really do. It's a great game with or without the story, but God does this story have real issues. I think we can safely start with Chris' role; his choice and motivation to withhold the truth from Ethan about Mia is just about the most pointless and nonsensical plot point in perhaps the entire series. It's literally only there to make the player wonder if Chris is truly evil or not, kind of a lazy story in and of itself, but also totally uninteresting because there's not a lot of input from the in-universe characters about this either. Something that's potentially cool for the player but does nothing for the actual characters is just useless and should've been thrown out. Of course, it doesn't help that Ethan is a total blank slate despite some lazy attempts to make him likable with one-liners that a 3rd grader could've came up with (admittedly, some of them ARE so bad, they're good). I barely any feel any drive or passion coming from Ethan which was also a major problem in RE7. There's legitimately more personality in his right hand than his entire body. The game also does very little with the reveal that he's been a Molded the entire time, even during the events of RE7, again, something shocking for the player but having very little relevance anywhere else besides Ethan's relationship to Rosemary and opening up whole cans of plot hole worms that are better left unthought about.

There is some good stuff too. All the villains are interesting and have just enough said about them to be fleshed-out but also still mysterious and scary. Donna's psychological horror section is well-thought out with fantastic attention to subtle detail to rival Silent Hill. The lore of Castle Dimitrescu felt a lot like uncovering the secrets of the Spencer Mansion all over again. You could feel the tragedy of Moreau through portrayal alone, and Heisenberg's factory provided feelings of industrial corruption and portrayed cogs in a war machine through tip-top level design helmed by someone less purely antagonistic, and more anti-villain. It's an awesome cast and their personalities and stories are forever etched in my head now.

The stuff with Spencer and Mother Miranda was fine but unnecessary but hell I admit seeing anything related to older lore is cool to me. The end of the game does have my curiosity piqued for the future as well. Most of this game however desperately needed major retooling, especially in regards to Chris and in my opinion it would've benefited greatly from giving the villains just a bit more screen time and ignoring the legacy stuff all together. And at least hopefully now we won't have to go through another game with Ethan at the helm.

Resident Evil back in its rollercoaster action form along with its awesome janky cheesy story with cheesy janky dialogue. I loved every second of it. I also love how they completely scrapped Chris Redfield's 765th redesign from RE7 and went back to his RE5/6 self.

Honestly though, the story isn't bad at all and the Resident Evil charm seeps out from every single pore from this game, which carries the plot further than it should have.

Another game I didn't mess with, so time for some more catch up. Half of 3/9 of the 5s that I can rate.

Super Mario Galaxy: 4/10
There... kind of isn't anything here? Just the explanation of Roselina, which just leads to theories instead of actual information.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: 5/10
The first Zelda to have a story, it was barebones but it was a legitimate storyline and very good linear-ness with it. The only thing I don't really like is not really understanding Agahnim. Was he a Zant? Or was he the body of Ganon for the time being?

Pokmon Red & Blue: 4.5/10
The first Pokemon left a lot of gaps in what it was doing. And I mean, Blue was very random, Giovanni being a gym leader didn't really lead to anything, and we have this weird story about how one gym leader gained her position, but that's it. Also, why is there a tree blocking the way into Surge's gym? How does he leave? How does anyone leave? There's more I just nitpick over time, and maybe it's because of how much story plays a bigger part in remakes and later games.

Great cast of villains. Moldy boy is whatever, but Mia is still a terrible human being and seriously gross for banging a walking biohazard. Chris is still laughably bad and makes the entire game worse by being peak Chris (but bonus points for not losing a single team member for the first time in ever).
