It's Iyashikei. It's intentionally the way it is. If you don't like it then don't play it. The world needs more Iyashikei media.

If you're playing New Horizons (the latest) yeah it's pretty boring. It didn't help that the villagers were super bland up until the very latest patch or that all of the holidays are not included in the core game (they have to be downloaded during certain times, which is crap). All the random islands you can visit are boring and dull, and there's no awesome mini games you can play there. Add to that now you have to craft basic tools just to do anything - and they break all the time - and it just doesn't cut it with me. And you can't even collect all the fruit without visiting other players! It sounds dumb, but it shouldn't depend on multiplayer for something basic like stupid fruit. Pretty much the only things it really has going for it are better graphics, a way better museum, and that you can put stuff outside now. It lacks in nearly everything else.

The previous one, New Leaf, is really awesome though. That's my favorite by far. Definitely give that a shot if you can.

Really? Is it some kind of anti timetravel thing?
You can go to any holiday if you time travel. You need to download it the first time.
This is really shitty, and the fact that they didnt change this for the last big update is baffling. Its bad enough that they removed several fruits from the start.
Yea, it is. Acnh really sucks. The only reason I dont regret getting it is because I know if i didnt have it then i wouldnt know how boring it is and id constantly want it

I really loved in Wild World the museum and observatory which makes it a lot more fun than the other games in the series.

I love Lord Jesus, Family Matters (for Steve & Laura which I typed up a beautiful alt from Just One Date episode) and FFIX (for Zidane & Garnet).

Yeah, I'm playing New Horizons. I came into it with an open mind, I really did. But wtf....I feel like I am playing an elaborate custom avatar/homepage creator. If that makes sense.

It's definitely not a game I'd recommend people buy blind unless you have a large friend group playing it and you wanna interact with them more than the game, but it does have an appeal with the right expectations.
[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

They didn't want people time travelling forward to see events early. It seems weird at first but I'm ultimately for it. You can only time travel to what has ever happened at least once, which is fair enough. After the game's been out a year, everything is available to time travel.

Yep, it's a lot like Harvest Moon. You either enjoy it or you don't. I dip in and out of it. I fell in love with it with the first one, quite a lot different from the previous 'life-sims'. Really good writing, really good music, so just good for chilling. Totally reasonable to find it boring though.

I loved it as a kid when I had nothing to do, I have fond memories of talking to my favorite vilagers and sending them mail, I remember when one said they wanted to move so I sent them a full length letter on why they shouldn't leave, I have never put so much into writing something, even lenghthy essays for schoolwork.

But I played one years later and even as a teen there were about a million games I'd rather be playing, there is absolutely nothing of substance in those games.

It's not supposed to be exciting, at least. It's a very chill sandbox game with pretty limited/simplistic formal goals, mostly consisting of designing your island the way you want it. If you're expecting excitement, you're going to be bored. If you're just looking to chill virtually, less so.

NH is a very good AC game in many ways (though tool durability was a mistake, particularly not ever providing the option to make unbreakable tools), but at the end of the day it's still not going to be a super exciting game. A lot of the hype surrounding it was a product of when it came out: The pandemic had just really started to hit North America and everything was locking down. Everyone suddenly had a lot of free time and the real world became a stressful, scary, uncertain place. Being able to spend dozens of hours immersing oneself in a virtual world that was so chill and (mostly) predictable was exactly what many people needed, so the game sold like hotcakes.

You could but you had to have an Gameboy Advance and get it through the island if I remember correctly. I think the item codes didn't work for that one.
