Like I know it broke the script extender but did it ruin all the other mods too?

I thought the reason the script extender broke last time is because the game changed to 64 bit or something, what could be their excuse this time

Bethesda is shit

Oh and there's a tool on the mod subreddit to downgrade it if Steam auto-updated. It's likely most mods are going to be broken even after SKSE is fixed

Pretty sure I heard the script extender dev got access to the code before it was released, so that this update wouldn't break that at least. Is that busted anyway? Lol.

I think old mods that add armor is still intact.

At least I was able to add modded armor. So there is that.

but Im guessing just about anything extensive/a tad more complicated is broke.

SKSE has a hotfix out that restores partial function, but I would guess that the large majority of the mods with dependencies are still incompatible.

The .exe was recompiled in a different version so basically every address and function is different. Mods that use .dll files are fucked and need to be updated individually; some might never get updated.

Apparently the new .exe might have some benefits such as the Papyrus script system running noticeably faster, which would be a big deal for heavily modded games. So it's not all bad. Just will be a few months til it's all worked out

Yeah I'm more than fine keeping the previous version forever since this was used to make way for the AE and fuck ever buying that

If I launch it through SKSE instead of Steam, will the pending update that breaks everything be installed regardless?

Open Steam first then use SKSE to launch Skyrim, it won't update that way

If you set Steam to update Skyrim only when launched, it should work as long as you only launch Skyrim through SKSE.

Every update for Skyrim breaks the script extender. They all have. A member of the team posted a somewhat working version when it launched a few days ago, so it's already being worked on. It's a non issue. It will effect it almost not at all

This is different because the compiler was changed and now every SKSE plugin that uses a .dll needs to be individually recompiled or they won't work. Many of these mods will probably never work with AE because the modders have moved on and won't update them.

Well, that's just the lifecycle of mods. There's almost no mods from two years ago that are still relevant if they have not been receiving support in that time. If the author isnt there to update thats what happens.

Im going to just wait until all the mods are fixed
The best option. Some basic ones like the main UI mod will be back very quickly, in fact they might be up with the very newest SKSE test patch. Most other big mods with active authors, give it a month or two, try out some different games in the meantime. It will be worth it to wait.

I've played about 10 hours with Anni edition. Strictly sticking to the workshop mods works perfectly fine so far. Got about 40 loaded including iNeed, Camping, Hypothermia and Frostfall since they are superior to the CC counterparts. No crashes yet on a clean save. Waiting on updates for the heavier/skse mods like iequip etc.

The actual reason being my computer is shit and can't really run special edition modded to the degree I like.

That's the fear. I'm pretty sure a good portion of the mods I use aren't being updated anymore. Also, I have 200 hour Legacy of the Dragonborn file that I'm not ready to part with. I'm pretty sure the update will kill it.

Crap, I just wanted to play Skyrim and sip coffee on a nice Sunday morning. The only mods I'm running is the better UI and unofficial bug batch mod. I have SKSE installed and launch the game through Vortex

Steam autoupdated and now I have to find a work around.

Yeah just turn off your updates and dont mess with it until you're satisfied with your current playthrough.

Overall, the only mods that will really get messed up long term are ones that are abandoned by their authors. And for those mods, they were going to become outddated regardless of the Skyrim update.
