This company I have started working for about a year now has Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday but only Christmas day as a holiday. That seems weird to me.

Damn, that sucks, but the company I'm working for now is the only company I've worked for that pays us for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas.(they're giving us Christmas Eve and the Monday after Christmas to give us a 4 day weekend this year)

I guess that's a lie if you count the Army, but that's not really a company, so I wouldn't really count that.

They gave us the choice of taking off Indigenous People's Day (Columbus Day) or the day after Thanksgiving. I took the former off because everybody else is going to use PTO for the day after Thanksgiving so there won't be anything to do anyway.

I've had Christmas Eve be a half day... and like a handful of people come in. We got ice cream and just chilled in the office until noon.

Depends on the company, and the day the holiday lands on. For example, I have off every other Friday. This year that Friday lands on the day after Thanksgiving, so I get that as floating holiday. Though idk what the Christmas schedule is like.

I get 10 holiday days per year + 2 floating holiday (on top of the typical 3 weeks vacation). So if a holiday doesn't happen because of a weekend, or my off Friday, it just gets added to floating holiday at the start of the year.

At one time, employees would give TG day, Fri, and that weekend off but now some employers require people to work part of TG day depending on how they schedule. If you work a 12 hour alternating shift, people could end up working on TG day, Christmas and New Year's day so things have changed for sure.

"Second day of Christmas" is not something many countries observe.

Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday, so giving people the day off -- turning it into a 4-day weekend -- makes sense. Christmas falls whenever (including Saturdays, like this year), so it doesn't make any sense. Honestly, there's nothing weird about this.

Plus a lot of companies either give Christmas Eve off or have it as a half-day, so you're getting time there (although I've worked for some real Scrooges over the years, and not the fun McDuck kind)
