i'm not sure what they heard in that voice actor's voice that landed him the part? surely they could have found a better voice actor, in general? none of his delivery seemed on point at all. but i also don't know shit about voice acting so maybe i'm just wrong.

I don't think it's THAT bad. It sounds like he's been replaced by a pod person version of himself. That's an ideal outcome for modern Simpsons, which would kill to be a pod person replacement for the original show.

I never went out of my way to watch any new Simpsons, but that's pretty bad. It's not even about the voice itself. He just doesn't seem like Dr. Hibbert at all. Homer and others sound weird too and obviously that's due to the the VAs aging, which is one of the many signs as to why the show should have ended.

Not even because of a racial thing but because I just hate recasts in general. But the racial thing is dumb too because its not like actors like Hank and Harry were doing offensive stereotypical voices or anything.

At least Carls new actor sounds pretty close to Hank.

Also, when did Cleveland get a new voice? He still sounds like Mike Henry to me.

The show has been on long enough that voice actors are already dying off anyway.
Harry Shearer is nearly 80. Hank Azaria is youngest regular castmember, and he's 57.

I'm not too bothered by black characters being voiced by white people and vice versa. In the case of Cleveland for example where a central part of his character is that he is black, I'd rather a black guy play him. His replacement is fine. Dr. Hibbert, not so much.

Call me crazy, but I think trying to segregate people by race is almost always a bad thing.

Furthermore, you'd have to be an idiot to not see how this can limit opportunities for VAs of color and not the other way around.

This. Dr. Hibbert was always a caricature of Clifford Huxtable from the Cosby Show. He even wore Cosby sweaters and his family looked just like the Cosby family on the show. He just didn't do the "skeetin' scattin' shoobidy daaaaaw puddin' pops" shtick that most Cosby caricatures did.

This is just telling actors you should never be more than your gender, your sexuality, your race, your religion, your political beliefs, your physical ability, your weight, your nationality etc

Modern day acting is just playing characters exactly like your real life self. In one episode of The Simpsons a few weeks ago, a woman with one breast played a woman with one breast. If a woman with two breasts voiced that character, you know there would have been outrage.

While pretty much all the recent "don't cast anyone not X as X" shit has been pretty stupid, trying to shove that into voice acting is the absolute dumbest shit. If any minority population has had issues getting into voice acting, it's certainly 100% not because characters of their demographic are taken up seeing as that doesn't actually factor into casting in any way whatsoever.

I sort of got the problem with Apu. It's about representation and for the longest time he was basically the only South Asian entity in show business. I can see how that can be upsetting to those who are Indian and for a long time the only thing out there that represents you is a white guy playing a caricature of you. I can understand that. This I don't get. It's not like there aren't jobs for black people in entertainment. I feel like the was an over correction that wasn't needed.
