I would go back and watch the Miss Cleo infomercials on a CRT, then fall for the scam for the legit 90's experience.

Then I'd go to ancient Egypt, hang out with my boy Tutankhamen and give him a smartphone to light up his tomb.

Guess that depends on what theory of time travel you adhere to. Can you change events, can you go forward and backward, etc...

The focus of the question when I wrote it was about personal travel experience.

But if you want to kill your grandpa so bad, I'm not going to stop you with some rules.

Go to the far future to see how interesting technology and medicine has become, and if it's not worth living there, go back in time to win the lottery.

I'd go back and save copies of the Doctor Who reels that were lost. With some prep, I could do the ol' switcharoo and make BBC burn some fakes while the originals are safely transported to the present.

I'd find ways to covertly record moments from history so we'd have a more accurate reference of events. Sure it'll anger everyone that disagrees with what truly happened, but truth is more important than bias.

I'd also find ways to make myself enough money to live in my own place without needing to work. Like maybe take a peek at the stock market for a week or two ahead of time, and act accordingly.

Depending on the method of time travel this wouldn't actually cause any problems, you would be in an alternate reality where time travel was not invented but you would still have a time machine. Also it could be a method of time travel that literally reverse the logical steps of creation (each action is a logical step forward), time travel in such a system would work within that system, meaning anything you go back in time and change, is actually the next logical step for the universe (your changes were meant to happen, and the next "moment" in time for the universe starts with a pre-existing moment you decided to travel back to, and all moments after that continue to proceed logically.

Basically time paradoxes may not be possible.

As far as what I would do, I'd go back in time to a bunch of different points in the past and invest heavily into stocks that were going to zoom up, to ensure I had plenty of money in the future, then I would constantly travel forward a few years at a time and see what the best games that were released were and play them. I would also invest some of the massive amounts of money into funding future awesome games and pushing VR ahead towards a Sword art online like (without the not being able to log out) sort of game.

I'd also protect the future by preventing any major wars or natural disasters that would prevent great games from being created.

Remember, depending on which version of yourself you are, you're either going to experience everything the other guy does later or you already have. And it's not like you have to worry about her running off with him and cheating on you or anything. It's win-win!

Go back to 2010 and buy $100 worth of bitcoin. I wouldn't give that info to my past self though. I'd let past me live that same life so that I would still end up where I am with the same people that I currently have in my life. I wouldn't want to risk losing the only woman that I've ever loved. I wouldn't want to risk losing my nieces or nephew. Not for any amount of money. So it would have to sit in that virtual wallet until I came back to the present to claim it.

Well, I'd either mold the human race and human history in a personally beneficial, but lazy way, or I'd skip forward to the future to see how I can change things. Everybody always focuses on the past when it comes to time machines, nobody ever thinks about the future... except the second Back to the Future. And HG Well's The Time Machine. But those are literally the only two examples before countless other examples of the same thing.

idk, at least it doesn't come up in discussions often, but it seems useful. And you're less likely to mess up things that accidentally delete your existence
