So typically you'll either hear nothing after you apply or they will say we reviewed your resume and are not moving forward with you/schedule an interview.

I applied to a place last week and just got an email which I thought was them reaching out to schedule an interview but it was actually a personalized email saying she had looked at my resume and will reach out to schedule an interview if they decide to move forward.

Just seems like an odd update to give me at this stage.

I have never had a response like that but it's promising, I think. Maybe they aren't ready to interview yet but want to keep your interest for when they do.

Really? I was thinking the exact opposite. Sounds to me like a "don't call us, we'll call you."

According to Ask a Manager's blog, a week in hiring is like nothing. It's painful when you're waiting on that interview to be scheduled, but they may not be moving that fast.

sounds to me like you might be a backup candidate in case their preferred candidates don't pan out. otherwise i feel like they would just go ahead and schedule you for an initial interview

A backup candidate would've had an interview already though.

If the "personalized" aspect is just your name, email and job you applied for then it's just a more advanced template response... with a more personal touch, is all?

More companies are trying to leave better impressions in the recruitment process imo, so this is one way to do that, even if you dont get the job (or an interview) you still feel good about them.

I feel like if they were trying to make a good impression they would make it clear that you didn't get the interview.

I actually sent a similar response to a couple of candidates. In my case, I'm interested in interviewing these people but I need to discuss it with my higher up as well (and he's busy). As for the people who just didn't make the cut, I let them know about that already.
