I can't help but feel that people wearing masks alone outdoors is entirely dependent on where you live. LA, New York, absolutely. Never been a common thing In Kelowna or Victoria, but definitely is in Vancouver. Far more population-dense.

Also, I don't really see the purpose of questioning it. Person might be more concerned for very valid personal reasons. Person might just be conveniently wearing it in the car getting from place to place. Who cares?

Chances are they're driving a short distance, thus there's not point in taking it off just to put it back on in a minute or two.

I wore mine while driving to work last winter since it acted as a decent face warmer.

I'll wear mine sometimes because I'm too tired to remove it or forgot that I was wearing it (that has happened a few times). That, or because I just left a store where it's posted for me to enter masked.

Because almost everyone here wears masks outside as well.

he's made this exact one before, but clench is a) cool and b) wouldn't fight back at any and all factual answers, like "Maybe they just forgot?" with the dumbest rebuttals

I feel like a lot of people in my area want to pretend the pandemic is over. I have to wear mine at work anyway, so I leave it on as I walk home as a visible reminder.

People can do what they want if it's not harming others, and that's why I'm trying to understand their perspective and my post isn't saying "stop doing this"

Don't see how that's incompatible with this topic. Wearing masks in the described situations does not protect against covid transmission, except for maybe the car if you're doing ride share and about to pick someone up. Certainly not if you're just commuting to work or out doing errands by yourself in the car.

I could venture to guess that it stems from a misunderstanding of how transmission is occurring, but can't rule out laziness or forgetfulness.

i think some other people are much more annoyed by wearing a mask than i am. i will sometimes forget im wearing it for like 10-15 minutes after i get home if im busy

I mean taxi drivers are told to wear them and may not have a fair at that time. Some folk may be out for walks and feel it's best to keep it on incase they pass people. I'm not sure you're issue here given your stance. You're literally crying that folk are wearing masks yet I assume you want folk to do so.

The longer you were a mask, the less effective it becomes. So wearing it when there is nobody to protect from the covid you might have, actually makes it less helpful at that task while around other people.

Its become part of me and I dont think about it. Like a watch.

No, I want people to act in a manner that reduces transmission while balancing our desire for a return to "normal" and healthier life. And part of knowing how to act to minimize transmission is having an understanding of why such interventions are being suggested. Taking interventions when not necessary could suggest that there is insufficient messaging regarding the underlying rationale for those interventions.

As an example, I still see people over 17 months into the pandemic walking outdoors with a mask on who will stop, take off their mask, sneeze into their hands, then put their mask back on (touching their face and the body of the mask in the process). This combination of behavior is incoherent.

Some people might refuse to go on walks outside because they're fearful of outdoor transmission, despite it being exceedingly rare if not entirely undocumented that someone catch covid from simply passing another on the sidewalk. And more walking is the number one activity people should be doing to improve their health.

Half the time I just straight up forget that I'm wearing it. Once I had been at home for forty-five minutes and was just about to eat something when I realized I was still wearing it.

Some people forget they have it on or they know they can be forgetful so they just put it on and keep it on

It's generally either a matter of forgetting that it's on or expecting to need it again soon enough that it's not worth the effort to take it off. I tend to lean toward taking it off, since it has a pesky habit of fogging up my glasses, but sometimes I just don't care.

Youre supposed to refrain from touching the mask as much as possible as well as taking it off if youre going to put it back on, as that could cause contamination.

Based on my observations of people in public, essentially no one is taking care to avoid contamination. I wish that weren't the case but just watch how people handle their masks.

If never removing it is what it takes for some people who are consciously doing so to avoid contamination, that's great. I don't do that, while I have been 1) putting on /taking off/adjusting my mask by only touching the ear loops, 2) always worn masks with the same side facing in/out, and 3) laundered cloth masks after each day of use since a day or two after lockdowns started.

My masks are so comfortable, I forget I have one on.
This is my new normal. Ive learned a lot tnrough observation over the passed year and a half and I have had confirmed that the majority of people are either stupid or disgustingly unsanitary.
I work alone and outside and I can tell you for a fact that people pop up in the most random places and they almost without fail, make a point of walking near you to see what youre doing.
Most people being gross and piglike combined with the crazy magnetic pull to the nearest human pretty much guarantees that my mask is on 90%of the day.

Because you touch yourself at night

wearing a mask doesn't bother me cuz i'm not a baby so i generally keep it on the entire time i'm out in public until i'm ready to go home

micromanaging it based on who is within ten feet of me sounds like way too much hassle

there should be a wire in the nose portion of the mask that you can bend to fit snugly to your nose; this helps prevent the glasses fogging up problem

I know, it's just a little strange to me that you can't rationalize the reasons that people may do this and haven't chosen to 'understand' it until October 4th of 2021.
