The urgent need was highlighted by a recent incident in which a 4-year-old boy was struck by a dirt bike and remains in critical condition.

Despite the progress the NYPD says it's making, the danger from the illegal vehicles remain.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea pleaded for anyone with videos or pictures of dirt bikes in Flushing Meadow Park, where the boy was struck, to come forward.

"There's far too many still out there, and anyone with information, where you are seeing them stored, meet up or anything else, give us a call," Shea said on NY1.

In the first quarter of 2021, city officials say there were eight deaths and more than 350 injuries caused by people operating vehicles illegally on streets and sidewalks.

Unlike cars, dirt bikes and ATVs are primarily for recreation. The poor need to get to work, they don't need to go off roading. At least, I don't think there's any civic duty to enable them to.

When they start bulldozing cars to drive and park in the Bike lane then it would be targeting criminals. Speaking bikelanes, when they do this to bikes riders who don't think the rules of the road apply to them. Then lets talk about them just going after criminals .

Try living in a city where people drive those things around at all hours they are a nuisance and have no reason to be in a city. But I am sure most of you guys are perfectly ok with people driving them on the side walk and up and down the streets at 2 am. Dirt bikes especially became really popular where I am a few years back and everyone was so glad when the police cracked down on them.

It is not needless it is being done for the public safety. Much like drugs when the city confiscates illegal items they get destroyed.

You understand dirtbikes, unlike drugs, are legal in most places in the country and could easily be sold or recycled for parts, right?

There is 0 reason to tie the law banning them in the city to their destruction. That is just wasting money for no reason. And the city is already financially hurting.

Those videos are basically videos of us watching a bunch of money being spent to destroy even more money.
