A moronic cast of characters, a half-baked world, a senseless plot, and one of the most empty death scenes I've ever seen are just a few of the things that contributed to my rock-bottom rating.

I'm curious, Leon. What did you love about FF15 other than the brotherhood/banter?

For me, the story was dead-on-arrival because I found no reason to get invested in the characters. Noctis was a plank of wood. His three bodyguards were walking stereotypes with the depth of an FFX NPC. And Lunafreya? Yikes.

This IMO is the main problem with post-merger FFs. Whereas FF7-10 did the legwork to get you invested in their protagonists early on by building intrigue around their pasts and depicting them as heavily flawed (and human) characters, FF15 expects you to care abut Noctis just because he walks when you tilt the control stick.

I like the game a good deal more than this, but the story actively drags it down. The best parts are when there's virtually no story, and you're just getting charming banter between the bros. There's a nice vibe there.

But basically every plot twist and revelation left me extremely cold and disappointed in how unfinished it felt. The back half would be like a 2 or 3, and it's raised by Noctis and Prompto and Ignis goofing off.

Also I like Luna but pretty much only in kingsglaive.

Noctis is anything but a flat character imo. I mean its a shame his arc isn't that compelling because of aforementioned woes, but it's definitely there.

I'm basing this off the original release without any of the DLC episodes

the four points are basically in honor of our four brotagonists. the bond they have is pretty good. unfortunately, this bond has little to actually do with the main plot, villain, or endgame, which makes little to no sense. a skeleton of an interesting game is forming but this game was prematurely birthed to its own detriment. theoretically, the game has good side characters, like Iris, Luna, and Aranea, but they are poorly implemented.

the shift in quality from the main continent to everything after is so huge, not only in terms of gameplay but story as well. the backstory of the game is theoretically explained in a 2 hour cg movie. I watched it and it was also nonsensical.

The parts where Ardyn makes fun of your party for sucking are fun. Iris and Aranea are moderately entertaining. The rest of the game sucks ass. The side characters are terrible, the main cast is horrendous, the sidequest stories are dull, and the primary story is never interesting in any way whatsoever. This is up there for "worst story in a game I finished"

Pretty much what everyone else said. The four leads are great, but everything else felt so generic and rushed that I just really didn't care. Even something like XIII, with its unlikable characters and poor storytelling techniques was at least memorable.

I think this game has some great concepts and awful execution. Love the characters, the story beats are there but just occur, resulting in a supremely weird vibe. I'm actually kind of into that vibe, it's just some bros hanging out on a road trip while events occur around them off-screen, but it feels unintentional. I never played the DLC though which might be enough to bump it up a point or so but I just never felt it was worth my time.
