Is it the same as "cool"?

Is it kind of like "down to earth"?

if you're ever curious about any slang, you should check out Urban Dictionary.

based

A word used when you agree with something; or when you want to recognize someone for being themselves, i.e. courageous and unique or not caring what others think. Especially common in online political slang.

The opposite of cringe, some times the opposite of biased.

I've internally equated 'no pretenses = based'.

it's basically like saying respect. like in ant man when dale finds out about the robbery thing, he could have said based and the scene would be the same, lol

Does it mean that it has a good base?

---
There's no "would of", "should of" or "could of".
It's "would've", "should've" and "could've".

So being yourself makes you based, if it's in a cool way where people agree.
But if you are yourself but people perceive that as negative because they don't agree it's not based? Unbased?

I don't understand how it's used

Is it used the same as "respect"?

Seems like it's both an adjective and a remark on its own?

It has a lot of contextual uses but it typically boils down to saying something that is widely disagreed about while also confidently owning the opinion. Commonly used in the alt right to describe "facts don't care about your feelings" type opinions, but can be used outside of that community. It can also be used to describe a person's unorthodox lifestyle that they live confidently.
