Do you think a 1000+ years in prison is an outrageous number?

20 y/o Devon Erickson from Colorado, the gunman who he and his transgender friend, Ale McKinney went on a school shooting and killed a student gets 1282 YEARS in PRISON WITHOUT the possibility of parole!!

The judge ordered sentence for attempted murder and other charges that happened at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math School

He's the second person sent to prison for the shooting rampage when Alec, who aided him plead guilty lats year to murder, attempted murder, conspiracy and related charges

He was convicted of first degree murder for fatally shooting Kendrick Castillo, one of the 3 students who rushed him to intervene when he and Alec burst into a classroom

Maria Castillo fought back tears to tell of her grief she feels losing her only child as she said "Grant no mercy to this evil killer"

Erickson, who was 18 at the time declined to speak at the sentencing and Slade his lack of remorse throughout the proceedings compelled her to impose the additional years

He kept his head down and only showed emotion when his relatives spoke as his mother listed his difficulties at school and challenges at home

The judge was firm on her stance and said it wasn't his mother's fault and he had options but didn't take them and now he has to accept responsibility

Erickson is said to be a chronic drug abuser and students were outraged that red flags were being ignored when they first notified authorities.

McKinney testified AGAINST Erickson at the trial and was sentenced to life plus 38 years in prison

Because McKinney was a juvenile, he could be eligible for parole after serving 40 YEARS

Do you think 1287 years is outrageous?

Anyone know how the judge ended up at this number? Is it perhaps the addition of prison time accounted for all the individual charges that were brought against him?

While a certain life sentence is warranted... I don't know if thousands of years counts as, like, cruel/unusual

It's pointless putting numbers on after a humans life expectancy but at least this means he'll die in prison.

Fucking ridiculous, and a great case-in-point of the insanity found within the US's vengeance system (and no, you can't pretend that it's a "justice system" when it's pulling this kind of shit).

They should appeal the sentence because it's beyond unreasonable, and that judge should be disbarred.

We have reached a point in time that within an average life expectency, people may become immortal.

You could end up really serving 1000 years.

Also 20 isn't a freaking child.

The 1000 years is more to set an example to would be school shooters (don't do it or you won't see freedom ever again) as the judge would've said life anyway with no parole.

I mean, if it came to that, there would probably be a bunch of laws surrounding that. And thats if the prisoners were able to get that, anyway
