There's a world of difference between saying "it's only a small percentage of my income, I might as well buy it" so many times that your income is eaten up by those small purchases, and saying "I'm spending this small percentage of my income this one time after considering whether or not it's worthwhile and how that fits into my overall financial plan." Letting yourself treat some of your income as disposable won't doom you to poverty forever, you just have to be sensible about it and set reasonable limits for your discretionary spending. If you're well-off, spending $200 on this one thing you want isn't going to change that. Now, saying "I've already bought a couple other expensive things lately, so I can't justify this one" is perfectly reasonable. Did end up rebuying Hyrule Warriors for all the improvements/additions... It's mostly there to play Xenoblade X again if I feel like it. I worry about what happens when the Gamepad goes. Apparently it's got some custom battery that you can't easily replace and it won't function even plugged in w/o it. And I'm sure the screen will go at some point. It never got official spares for individual sale and the console died so fast that no 3rd parties bothered making knock offs. But IIRC Nintendo was charging $140 to repair a game pad, and that was during Wii U's actual lifespan. The damn pad was so costly they never even dared to sell it on its own.
