Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a bill into law that will require high schools to cover the evils of communism and totalitarian ideologies in government classes.
The Republican governor told reporters this week that three bills HB 5, HB 233 and SB 1108 will spotlight the horrors of communist dictatorships for young minds and inform them as to why people flee across shark-infested waters for the U.S.

This guy keeps on winning ! Hopefully this helps cut down on some of the far left brainwashing that can occur in some of our schools. Cant wait for 2024!

Tbh, my education on communist regimes in high school was already focused almost entirely on their atrocities already. I didn't get a more nuanced look until university, and even then you'd likely need to take a dedicated class on the subject.

Indeed. Most of my experience boiled down to "here are high-level summaries of the various systems, communism sounds nice but routinely falls apart because humans are evil, moving on." This is less something that will actually have an impact on the education of Floridan kids and more a matter of showboating for the pearl-clutchers buying into the fearmongering that schools are teaching kids how to be Stalin.

The conflation of education with communism is starting to feel like a deliberate attempt to justify making schools focus more on indoctrination (ironically very much like the Chinese model).

What exactly does this bill do? And what exactly does government class mean? Social studies? Because I went to high school in florida and that stuff was coverned. The only class I remember with government in the name was US government which was about our branches of government.

So I'm left wondering what exactly is this bill going to change?

Fortunately, once you succeed in making schools focus more on indoctrination, the populace tends to lose its ability to recognize how much like the Chinese model it is.

No, I'm laughing at the south for being so ass backwards. I wish they'd secede again and become the Confederate States of America 2: Electric Boogaloo so they can stop holding the rest of the country back. Then Rhonda Santis can be president of that shithole country where people are fed propaganda about how their country has never done anything bad, everyone getting health care = evil communism, and that it's such a massive infringement on freedom to make people wear a mask near other people in a pandemic.

I live in Florida. We should have elected Gillum (who now has no political future unfortunately because how prudish our society is and unforgiving).
