She has a Jill-like quality in her facial structure, but IMO they should have just done a Chris+Sheva buddy flick.

First of all, it's not a movie, it's a show, a series that apparently has taken lots of liberties already.

Second, the actress is a light skin woman with blue eyes. Jill in the game was a light skinned woman with blue eyes. Also the actress has the same body type as Jill.

I was actually more disappointed when they casted the British white woman, Sienna Guillory, as Jill in RE: Apocalypse. At least they cast an American actress for the show.

For the record Hannah John-Kamen did all of her own stunts in Antman and the Wasp. Sienna Guillory had a stunt double when filming Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Retribution.

To be honest, I think Lance Reddick as Wesker is far more questionable a choice than who was cast as Jill, for what it's worth.

I never like it when a well established character starts being altered in some way as the titles/series expand, unless its a reboot (even then I dislike it most of the time)

But that has more to do with me having a tendency to overly critique the differences, and to compare characters/actors/writers/directors to their predecessors and always seeing the negatives about the newer character/actor/writer/director well before seeing their positives. And that typically makes it a bit harder to enjoy the show.

Though I didn't really care for the previous Jill. Not a bad actress, she was just written a little too clich. More excited to have a different flavor than anything.

Because they've been doing it for decades and put in really stereotypical takes on characters. (I.E. John Wayne as Ghengis Khan, Jerry Lee Lewis in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Charlie Chan series, etc.)

Whatever your opinion is I think you should at least be consistent. If you complain about a different race playing a certain character don't have your outrage be depended on what race was swapped. For me I just feel the more iconic the character the less the look should be messed with. Like Batman or Cyborg being race swapped or to look significantly different would be jarring to me. That said Jerri Halloway being a lesbian instead of a straight man actually might have worked better and the portrayal was one of the only good side characters in Jessica Jones.

All that said the actress is so god damn hot...golly.

In a way, so has Batman's. He's supposed to be the picture of privilege, and that's a rich white guy.

I mean all the same themes can be used using other races. Even Black Panther you could make Asian for example and still set a secret advanced civilization in Asia unknown to people and all that. I mean I also just personally want to somewhat recognize characters sometime. Just be consistent in your outrage/non-outrage.

You couldn't explore Afrofuturism, stereotypes of Africans in contrast with a hyper futuristic hidden society, colonialism in Africa, the responsibility to intervene to stop famines/civil wars, the contrast between Africans and African Americans, the combination of traditional African values and futuristic ones. You couldn't have anyone that's not black play that role and have it make sense just like it wouldn't make sense for Shang Chi not to be Asian. It could be a similar story, but it would be fundamentally changed.

I think the definition of racism has been distorted in recent years.

Before, in this context, racism was not wanting a black actor to appear in a movie or tv series of any role just because they were black.

Now some people are claiming that racism is not wanting black actors to play white characters. That its racist to want characters to stay the same race as they were created as.
