Republicans are OUTRAGED over Democrats move to include WOMEN into the DRAFT as 6 Senators including Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, James Lankford, Steve Dains and Roger Wicker and Josh Hawley are challenging the legislation that would force women to register for the draft when they turn 18

Hawley said "Women have heroically served in and alongside America's fighting forces since our nation's founding. It's one thing to allow American women to choose this life, it's quite another to force it upon our daughters, sisters and wives. Missourians feel strongly that compelling women to serve is wrong and so do i"

They are drafting up the "Don't Draft Our Daughter's" Resolution to challenge the senate armed services committee over language in the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act that would for the first time require females aged 18-25 to draft

It passed overwhelmingly in the committee on a 23-3 vote where Hawley, Cotton and Democrat, Elizabeth Warren voted no.

No American has been drafted in the military since the Vietnam War but under current law, males who fail to register are banned from accessing federal student air or holding a government job and could be fined 250,000 or face 5 years in prison

Congress tried in the past to amend the military selective services act to include women but failed in opposition of the republicans.

Jack Reed, the Senate Armed Services Chair will change the text to "all Americans" and remove the male reference

But Republicans say only a "small" subset of women are able to meet the physical requirements for combat roles as only men can handle the physical prowess as a soldier in terms of army fitness and say no women should be forced under her will to be joined the military and says 65-84% of women fail the standard compared to 10-30% of men

Republicans say women already have a role BACK HOME and do not need to pick up arms to defend the country when men are suitable enough

The Supreme Court will be asked in June if it's sex discrimination for government to require only men to register for the draft when they turn 18.

Ria Tabacco Mar, the director of the ACLU Women's Rights Projects is urging the court ot take up the issue and says requiring men to register imposes a serious burden on men that's not being imposed on women and is a harmful message that women are less fit than men to serve in any particular way

The Biden administration is urging justices not to take the case and to let congress decide however

Democrats. Time for some equality! Not that I expect it... Women will still be far less likely to be drafted and far less likely to be put in direct combat positions.
But it's a step in the right direction.

The draft will always effectively exist. Even if we scrapped it, the second we NEEDED it, you can bet they'd rapidly re-institute it.

Man, Warren tricked me so bad. Used to be such a fan of hers and wanted her to be president some day. But she's a damn hypocrite on so much stuff, should've realized that after the first time she left Bernie hanging in 2016...

The draft is largely pointless anyways - who needs physical presence during war any more?

I mean we haven't had a Draft in over 40 years, worrying about this at all is pretty minor overall.

In a few years it will be 50 years since anyone was drafted to fight a war in the USA.

We dont really. We just kinda keep the idea on the backburner incase the need arises. Like these days I think it would take us being attacked to cause a draft to happen and that's only if they felt our current numbers where not good enough.

Anyways I agree women should be apart of it too. When it comes to equality I feel it should include both the good and the bad aspects.

If the situation ever gets bad enough that our full-time and reserves are not adequate and we need to start drafting. Would said draftees actually make a difference?

Sure. There are far more people not in the military than in it. It would be ugly for sure though. But at the end of the day winning would be all that mattered in such a scenario

Drafting men makes perfect sense but it's completely wrong to draft women. Option 2 is the correct one.

Some of them can fight too. With modern weapons physical strength (while still somewhat important) doesn't play as big of a role. Hell lots of women prison guards and thats far more likely to end up in a hands on fight

Point is, we will never need it.

It isn't a coincidence that the US hasn't instituted the draft in 40+ years, after Vietnam several changes were implemented to insure that a draft would almost never be needed. Not the least of which being that modern military strategy favors several well trained professionals using high-tech equipment vs. thousands of "cannon fodder" with machine guns. A draft doesn't fit in with that ideal.

So yea, just get rid of it.

I mostly agree. Rather, if there's a war in which we're short on troops, we should draft the multi-millionaires or billionaires, zero health excuses, and send them to the frontlines. See how quickly the war ends because our avaricious asswits are no longer in control of everything, sending less fortunate folk to die for their own sake.
