Edit: Or do it federally cause republican states would probably push back but you get the idea

A fair amount of the people pushing back against vaccination right now generally fall into the sphere of the Left. Unions complaining about mandatory vaccination, ethnic communities opposed to vaccination at all.

It's not just a political issue. And the people who insist on politicizing it are a large part of the problem causing the very thing they're complaining about.

If vaccine refusal weren't a problem, people wouldn't be complaining about vaccine refusal. It's pretty obvious that vaccine refusal precedes complaints about vaccine refusal. To argue the opposite is pretty disingenuous.

Democrats as a political entity haven't been pushing against vaccines in the way that republicans are, which was the point of my comment. Individual people aren't really relevant there

And yes I know there are pro vax republican politicians, but even they try to triangulate with "well it's a personal choice" language which ultimately just fuels anti vaxxers

Clearly, the government was hoping they could sucker 90 percent of the population into getting vaccinated. And it isn't happening.

They're very small in the UK, but we're not idiots who lose anything smaller than a post card.
Also two weeks after our full vaccine we can get a digital COVID-19 pass. I believe we just log into the NHS app. I haven't got mine yet but do have a card.

In Canada, they don't even give a physical card. There's just an online account we can access with our provincial health card that contains the information, which is updated before we're done with the 15-minute waiting period. It's not particularly robust as proof of vaccination (it'd be very, very easy to edit a screenshot or printout to display a different name), but it is straightforward and convenient, as well as being very fast.

What I got was a print out on 8 1/2" x 11" that was photocopied and secured at home with a copy for my wallet. They were supposed to send an electronic version through email but it still has not arrived (I know my email was written down correctly because I was contacted for a survey by a third party)

ParanoidObsessive posted...
Actually developing the system for such a thing and coordinating with every single vaccination point to distribute it, and establishing means to check for valid cards versus fakes, is much, much harder.

Yeah, you would need some sort of universal system to provide health care, and that's just crazy talk.

Zeus posted...
Propaganda is fun, isn't it?

What are you on about? I criticized 4 different administrations across both parties.

I'm going to say you are just upset that you don't have universal health care.

Huh. I just got the email confirmation (the vaccine was booked via email, plus they verified it when registered for each dose), with a link to CanImmunize for the official record. That page seems to be NS-branded, though, so I guess it varies by province.

Yeah the Ford government here in Ontario was letting Donald Trump take the lead on how to do things and was largely left scrambling to figure things out at the last minute. Our vaccination success has more to do with having a determined populace, then the competence of the government.

The funny part, your system was developed by a firm in Ontario.

I'm really quite glad I got out of Ontario when I did (almost exactly a year ago). London was reasonably fortunate through the first wave, but things went ridiculously downhill once students started coming back from Toronto and ignoring restrictions.

HIPAA just says that most entities can't access your health information without your permission. It does not in any way prohibit them from asking you to provide it, nor from denying you service if you refuse.

They could, couldnt they. Some place even have security. And most places can deny serving you, anyway Which means they even if you go in, you cant get what you came there for. And then, they can call the cops since you are trespassing, or loitering or whatever

I dont think it is, though. AFAIK, it doesnt prohibit people for asking about someones health. Especially to that person. They person could refuse to give them the information, though And I think HIPAA only applies to people in the medical field Like them sharing the information or whatever I think people are misinterpreting it. Most people didnt care, or even know, about HIPAA months ago. And are now using it to avoid getting vaccinated or showing proof of it

Mostly, it means somebody can't call up your doctor and ask for your medical information, unless they're one of the few entities that are exempt or you give them permission to do so. It gives you the right to refuse to share vaccination status, if you wish, but it doesn't protect you from being turned away from places that require vaccination.

Unfortunately 1/3 of the population thinks masks are the scarlet letter, and that vaccines will turn you into cronenbergs, and since the economy is more important than people's lives, (for some stupid reason) here we are.

Besides, you're free to not get one, and businesses are free to not let you in at their discretion.

If you can't force a baker to make a giant penis shaped wedding cake (aren't all wedding cakes penis shaped? idk) for a couple of gay men, then you can't force WahMart to let in maskless disease vectors.

I do think a vaccine passport to go to the grocery is tyranny, but I am wondering at what point are we collectively tired of offering the carrot to individuals who would rather kill themselves and everyone around them, then do the bare minimum required of them.

Kinda is though as some areas were considering vaccine passports in lieu of mask mandates. There should be a universal mask mandate regardless of what they decide with vaccine passports.

besides I was making light of the venn diagram between those who are refusing their shot, and those who are against masks, is pretty close to being a perfect circle.
