As memeable as making it to like five retirement matches and losing by 1-3 votes every time is, that means that not only was it strong enough to reach a retirement round numerous times, it's strength never faded. I'm of the opinion that a song's greatest chance of reaching retirement is in the first or second year it gets into a contest. After that, people tend to get tired of it. Id Purpose kept its support base for, what, eight years? It deserves to have finally sealed the deal. (It's also one of the least-transitive entrants I've seen. It basically only has close matches, even in the early rounds.) I doubt it wins the contest, but Top 8 is awesome. Nice to see that it didn't immediately bow out after clinching retirement. With the exception of the final in year 10, and one person who seldom followed the rules and to whom I gave at least a dozen chances anyway, I almost never disqualified any votes despite it being my discretion and the awareness that my predecessor was less forgiving. After year 10, I also had protection against new voters in the late rounds dropping in without reading the rules and swaying the match. And as the host for five years, I can tell you that moonroof's lifetime vote count is greater than one.
