I like some gene wilder in some of his movies, I do, but Johnny Depp's Michael Jackson impression as Wonka easily supersedes Wilder's as the ultimate Wonka portrayal, its just so good.

I actually unironically like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

And I 100% believe its because I never watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when I was growing up so I didnt go into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the mid-2000s I hate everything thats new and am gonna take it weirdly personally edgy mindset.

I grew up reading the book, and Charlie and the chocolate factory is much better

Heck, even the stuff they added was worthy

I remember nothing from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory except the Ooompa Loompas

But I can recall many scenes in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The classic is rewatchable, the modern version is like meh... I know it exists but that's all.

Something about how contrived the Tim Burton movie was makes it feel very much like a cash grab and a product of it's time.

Not to say it doesn't have it's moments but it's inferior as a cultural icon, if not just as a movie.

Just in terms of the title, I agree. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes out easier, it's got some alliteration. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a mouthful, and "the Chocolate Factory" already refers to willy so it's a bit redundant. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory expresses 2 ideas in 1 title.

Maybe that's why I like it. I haven't seen daddy issues in other movies though... hmm maybe mommy issues like in sleepy hollow?

People who dislike Charlie and the chocolate factory seem to forget that Christopher Lee was in it as the dentist dad...

The newer movie is better but Gene Wilder is the better Wonka. It's the Oompa Loompas and other characters that make the second movie better

I kinda like both. Never got the Charlie movie hate personally.

Now, I do have to say something I've always felt. I have not read the book, so I have no idea how it goes down, but I do feel like the bratty girl should have been the final kid with Charlie. She was clearly the anti-Charlie, someone horrible that got everything handed to her, had no business making it that far, and felt like the main kid antagonist of the movie honestly.

Like, I love the movie, but I always felt like there was a lull in it after she left... and it's because it feels like the main force of evil already lost. That dumb kid who becomes mini... no one cares about him; I kinda feel like he has the least memorable defeat out of all of them. Not only that, but we went from the bratty girls' iconic "I want it now" villain song to some weird tech (at least I assume it is, I can't even remember it that well) song as the penultimate climactic finish.

Her serving as the last kid would have given kids the hero to root for in Charlie, but also a villain to absolutely hate in her. Cowboy jokeo pants just made us yawn as we knew they had to find some contrived way to get him out of there so it could be Charlie solely remaining. The bratty selfish girl also would have been a nice contrast as stated above, and given kids a lesson in how those undeserving make it far in life (but this time with a good end of course).

The movie is very interchangeable I believe in the Wonka factory section. I believe you can swap a lot of the scenes around, and it ends up being relatively the same since each section of the Wonka factory feels divided from the rest. Imagine if you made a cut of the movie where first they end up in the tech room (First as in out of that, the fan scene, and the bratty girl's comeuppance). Bratty girl and father are there in the background, looking snotty and stuff. Cowboy No-one-gives-a-damn becomes tiny and the Oompa Loompas sing. Afterward Gramps and Charlie nearly get hacked to death by the fan, making kids worry that not only will Charlie lose... but the brat is actually going to win it all! The horror that'd be. Luckily, the two survive and we finally get the final kid eliminated when the bratty girl lets her selfish greed plummet her to the bottom of despair: kids cheering that she's gone... and wait, Charlie won!!!

Sorry, I felt like this was my opportunity to spread this. It's something I believe in strongly, and hope you all can see too. Maybe the movie plays in order of the book, I don't know, but I think this should have been a change from the novel to the film; it would have made the movie better. The movie just felt like the climax happened one step too early.

Lol I was sitting on that as my trump card, it really is the worst.

Say what you will about the new version but I for one actually like the new Charlie, he has a quietness to him that's endearing

New Charlie is just boring though. He's such a goody two shoes.
