Pretty much. SS had excellent dungeons and puzzles, BotW was really weak in that regard. BotW had excellent overworld exploration, SS had a glorified zone selector. There's not much sense in directly comparing them.

The concept was good, but the world was nearly as empty as SotC's and the game might actually be shorter than SotC.

BotW has way better puzzles too. There's so many fun ways to engage with the physics. Maybe SS is one of the better examples of "use the dungeon item" style puzzles in Zelda

Playing Skyward Sword over the weekend was a reminder of how absolute shit the Zelda franchise was from after Twilight Princess until A Link Between Worlds. I mean, yea, turning off the motion controls make it a little better, but the fact the whole game is built off of them fundamentally just makes the it difficult to play. Plus it is so damn linear compared to the "do the dungeons in any order" way it has been recently (and in much older games). And FUCK the ever living shit out of Fi!

It was a long, disappointing seven years. I just wish we weren't seeing such a drought of new games but at least the few we've got have been high quality.

ALBW and BotW were both AAA tier games. The Link's Awakening remake was so good that it felt like a brand new game.

I just started playing it having never played it before. Botw is in my top 10 of all time though, but not without its own critiques. Ss seems decent so far but seems like a different type of game. Open world is good but then so is linear. Perhaps ill have a little more insight once I get a little further in.

I like BotW a lot less than most people but Skyward Sword is hot garbage
