The problem can easily be circumvented by highlighting the entirety of the post. All the same, I don't know why the GameFAQs lot feels the need to put its users through the trouble.

All the same, the quoting system was much better without all these hyperlinks, and users could chain-quote. I mean, it was abusable, but at least you (read:fig) could see who said what.

You still can, it just takes a bit of effort.

If they were annoyed by the potential to "abuse" nested quote chains, they should just have put a limit on them rather than doing away with them entirely. Like, say, maybe three nested quotes before it puts the brakes on or auto-removes the oldest quote.

But that would require someone working for the site that actually knows how to code, and we haven't had that for like 15 years now.

The main reason I run up against this problem is if I'm quoting someone who quoted multiple posts so I can reply to the collective thought constructed with their multiple quotes.

I don't think it ever singled out nested quotes, but I'm pretty sure you can still only have seven quote blocks per post. Nested quotes did, however, stop displaying all of their content after ~3 tiers, unless you specifically opened them. I would have thought that would be enough, but I guess it keeps stacking them indefinitely in the background and potentially puts an unreasonable strain on the site (not really, but this is GameFAQs' technical expertise we're talking about).

I think that was a limit on quotes in general, not specifically nested ones.

Because speaking as someone who spot-quotes other people's posts pretty much all the time, I used to hit that limit a lot (part of why I'd occasionally wind up splitting replies up across multiple posts). And it'a actually still a thing (try to quote more than 7 people in a single post and see what happens).
