I mean lets not get extreme here, obviously anyone who plays video games no matter the difficulty is still a gamer Kotaku, but theres not anything wrong with having pride in being able to beat difficult games/segments/modes.

Also lets be honest if you are playing with an invincible mode on how is that an "achievement"?
(Example: survive enemy onslaught for 4 minutes, all you have to do is put down your controller and walk away for 4 minutes lol). I mean if thats fun to you more power to you but sounds like it would suck the fun out of the game. Since good gameplay is well balanced by a good negative/positive feedback ratio.

Honor Duels (no Grass, etc) predate git gud. We can start there. Im not a huge proprietor of the practice of telling people to GG, but if you explain more in-depth your question, as a player since the original Demons Souls (through Sekiro & into.... well..... Demons Souls again lol), Id love to share my knowledge.

What play style was discouraged, exactly?

Put in God Mode in all games, just don't let them get achievements or trophies for it.

I find many players who really cant do it right on regular difficulty dont really succeed with Easy Mode either........... Scenario: Give them what they want, and they still dont beat the game, buy the merch or support the sequel, and they still bash the game anyway, and this upsets the other players..... who, in turn, also retract their support. Lose/lose

Not all games are made for everyone,people need to accept that and deal with it. If you suck at a game, either get good with practice or just stop playing. Yes,disabled game should be able to play games however not every game is going to be accessible

Oh, and about trophies. I work with a youth who gets the platinum for every game he really enjoys. He doesn't have the opportunity to buy a lot of games for himself and he LOVES the added difficulty, additional gameplay, and the accomplishment of it.

It's actually not very surprising at all once you think about, they just wanna broaden their market base. Take away the stigma of elite gamers or whatever so that grandmas and casuals and people with no hand-eye coordination aren't too intimidated to plunk down $70 on a game and invincibility their way through it.

Pretty smart marketing actually now that I think about it.

Most games are actually really manageable once you gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals. The legendary hump, you know?

Sekiro is a prime example.

1.) The areas leading up to the bosses are 99% cake. Period.
2.) Be competent with the counter-slash & trades, and Posture, and even then...........

I think theres a grand total of maybe 4 or 5 tough fights (Isshin, Owl, Isshin 2, Owl 2, Corrupted Monk 2) and if you were able to get that far in the game anyway then you were doing something right. I mean, those guys can all be beaten using the old Hit n Run tactic anyhow. It shouldnt be a problem for a gamer of even slightly substandard skill. If that isnt you, this is a great opportunity to learn how to take out all the gnarly scenarios Demons Souls inspired in other developers. You just cant run from a challenge like that one.

If I can beat Sekiro on Charmless (rough), you can do it on Ng haha

But these are hardcore games, they are intentionally difficult. Beating them just as they are gives me, a true gamer, a sense of pride & accomplishment. /s

You've mentioned this before in another topic. It's a solution, albeit a sloppy one.

"God Mode" as you have suggested it implies that there would be no constraints on gameplay. It is my opinion that due to how certain games are balanced, it would break the game. Certain games at least.

Though I do like how you suggest disabling trophies. Many games have content locked behind a harder difficulty. Perhaps unlocking cutscenes, game elements and other gameplay-related rewards that were tied to a harder difficulty it wouldn't necessarily cheapen the experience for players seeking a more challenging experience.

"Git gud" is more about people complaining about unfair tactics in a game where it's more on the player to better themselves to overcome. The game isn't screwing you over, you just suck so stop bitching.

Basically wanting things made easier because you refuse to skill up. It isn't about people just sliding through on the easiest difficulty (although if they start complaining about the game not offering a lot of interesting moments or gameplay because they weren't being challenged at a low difficulty, that could warrant a "git gud" in response).

I've beaten every soulsborne game except sekiro multiple times. Yet, on any game with a difficulty slider, I always choose the easiest difficulty. I don't have much time for games anymore, and use gaming as an escape and just getting lost in a world for an hour or two after work before I have to sleep. I like feeling like a god in games.

If Microsoft wants to take a meaningful stand against "git gud", then cheevos should stop being a mandatory part of the certification process.

Eh, it'll work for some games and not for others. A game like Uncharted it's perfect for. It's a beautiful game and it's very narrative-based.

I just dont think you can get rid of it for all games.

Giving a player god mode does not improve accessibility, it's a lazy way to implement it.

Of course, the real reason this is an "industry trend" now, is because publishers would rather we pay $60 to see all the cutscenes than just watch a youtube video.
