As you mentioned he probably meant Sapient life, or high conciousness perhaps, but even that is a bit hard to determine. You'd have an easier time arguing BP was either tossed or shoved, particularly given that Thanos moved the arm he was holding BP in when the other hand touched him. Given that BP's body was fully suspended in Thanos's hand, Thanos would have basically been punching his own hand. Not to mention that the left arm would move to the left when Thanos adjusted his torso. You'd have an easier time arguing BP was either tossed or shoved, particularly given that Thanos moved the arm he was holding BP in when the other hand touched him. Given that BP's body was fully suspended in Thanos's hand, Thanos would have basically been punching his own hand.
