So the sentencing is happening, but worse for her, they just released info stating she snitched on everyone right before sending her to jail.

I'm pretty sure she would have been in solitary/secluded anyway just because of her fame, but now yeah, she can't be in general at all.

Still insane that she did the stuff she did, why would another woman actually suggest branding women and forcing them to be sex slaves? It's crazy.

She always did have a kinda scary smile though.

Lmao good.

That entire case is beyond fucked, and everyone involved deserves lengthy prison time. Mack had better get at least a few decades behind bars.

She isn't really all that rich. The sentencing guidelines for the charges was 14-17 1/2 years but she got reduced time due to cooperating. Pays to be a snitch.

The guy she snitched on was sentenced to 120 years.

Yeah, she only got 3yrs. All of that "snitching" got her a massive break in terms of sentencing.

There's also the potential issue that when you're dealing with a cult that recruits and brainwashes women, a woman who was herself indoctrinated into the cult (which she was) could arguably have been brainwashed (or at least be suffering from some degree of Stockholm Syndrome). So it becomes harder to definitively assign blame - ie, is she a willing and remorseless accomplice, or in her own way just another victim?

Which is not to say that it absolves or completely negates anything she did, but if you're dealing with a cult whose entire methodology is to break people down psychologically and make them pliable and obedient, there's definitely a question of just how much agency an individual has. If she was only doing what "her master" ordered her to, and she had been directly and deliberately conditioned into that mindset, then there may be a much greater interest in showing leniency.

It's more clear-cut for the people in charge, because they don't have that defense at all. When you're looking at a brainwashing pyramid scheme, you don't really go after the people in the middle or at the end of the chain, you go after the top.

The main reason why snitching is even a thing is because there's always a sense that it's better to let the smaller fish or ones who weren't entirely autonomous get lesser punishment if they help you nail down the people who were actually responsible.

Kind of a fucked-up twist, although to some extent she might have also been a victim besides being a participant given the nature of cults, brainwashing, and the like.

Which makes sense, since her real name is much harder to say and, more importantly, most people remember this Alison Mack as Chloe (since we tend to associate actors with their role if they've only had a few iconic roles)

Governments, too. Most maniacal despots are rather naturally atheists (and many of them have an affinity for swimming, which is an odd coincidence... unless they're all secretly the children of some demented sea-god).

Most maniacal despots tend towards monotheism... and have a very specific god in mind to worship. They tend to see him whenever they look in a mirror.

That's kind of the implication. They're the kind of people who can't tolerate the idea of somebody being greater than them and, at the same time, want to remove anything that could divide the peoples' loyalty and weaken their grasp. The obvious exception being when the religion is the state and the ruler is seen as either an incarnation of god or his direct representative on Earth, although even there it's a matter of them wanting the worship for themselves but not being able to transition from a structure where their power is derived from religion to a society without that religion (or, more specifically, from a religion not centered on them to a religion centered on them)

Yet another case of women getting ridiculously short sentencing compared to what a man would get.

White women are the most privileged group in Western society, and no matter how many times we see them basically get away with crimes with a slap on the wrist, the denial is so fucking strong that I'm already bracing the flame shields for all the personal attacks I'm gonna get just for stating the obvious.

14-17 year recommendation, got less than 1/4 of that!

Wrong person. I won't literally ELI5 for you though because no 5 year old should ever hear this.

Similarly named actress from the "Smallville" TV show of the early 2000s joined a religious sex slave cult with other rich people and she was second in command. She coerced those that joined into forced sexual slavery for the cult leader and others.

Also from all accounts she wasn't brainwashed etc, she actually came up with alot of the parts of the "cult" including literally branding the women, caging them etc.

She even admits to it, and says she regrets it, she doesn't say she was "coerced" etc.

She was a very late inductee. I find it hard to believe the claim that wasn't brainwashed.

Beyond that, the claim "oh, well, she came up with this, so clearly she wasn't brainwashed!" is literally not how brainwashing works at all.
