I enjoyed my week there.

The Pinball Museum was fun as hell too.

I can't remember if its asheville or ashboro thats considered the gay capital of the state. Aka the most gay friendly area of the state. Whichever one has the countrys largest mansion.

That is the city I was at, yeah. The Biltmore Estate tour was pretty cool.

I don't think we hit that road. The road our cabin we rented at however was a fucking NIGHTMARE to get up, lmao.

My friend's got a cabin in the mountains just south of Burnsville, and yeah. No way would I care to drive that nonsense.

UNC Asheville was my second choice for college. I still have no idea why I picked the beach over the mountains. I would love to live there at some point.

OOF, my one friend might have gotten Lyme Disease during the vacation. <_<

Two nights ago he started having a really sore and stiff neck/back, then last night he had a fever (that went away in the morning, and thankfully isn't testing positive for covid), but doctors think it's Lyme since they went on a hike 3 days before the sore neck started happening. >_>

If you catch it early it can be cured IIRC.

That describes me to a tee. Been crazy about pinball since I was a toddler but I've never learned any fancy techniques like most pinball people know.

It's only really famous for the Biltmore Estate. Other than that it's just a beautiful small hippie city tucked away in the mountains with lots of great food and stuff to do.

good restaurants?
Salsa's
Nine Mile
Tupelo Honey
Rosetta's Kitchen
Early Girl Eatery
Sunny Point Cafe

Tons of other highly rated places but these are the ones I regularly go when I'm in Asheville. Keep in mind, most of the breakfast/brunch places don't take reservations. It's normal for those places to have nearly two hour waits unless you get there really early.

Mostly just find a different restaurant to go to every night and chill back at the cabin and play board games/drink. Sunday was the Biltmore Estate tour, and Saturday was the Pinball Museum. I know some of the crew did a hike to the top of a mountain on Thursday, but I gave that a big 'ol 'fuck that' and just relaxed at the cabin.

Weather was damn great up till Sunday. The day we did the tour it was the must humid I've ever felt which surprised me being from Western PA.

Biscuit Head for breakfast. Place was always packed but damn worth it.

The two places that stand out for me were Burial Beer Co. and Manicomio Pizza. The first place was my first time dining AT a restaurant since Covid, and they had decent beers and food. Their fries were damn good. Manicomio Pizza might be hands down my favorite pizza place I've ate at. Our whole party loved it, which is great given how split we all were on everything all weekend. >_>

Also you really can't go like a half a block before bumping into a different brewery there. Holy shit there are so many.

thanks for the tips! gonna be at concerts all three nights i'm there so probably won't go out for dinner. but i will want a nice hearty lunch to keep me going.

i'll be traveling solo which makes getting into restaurants a little easier and i can always sit at the bar.

We did stop at Early Girl one of the mornings too. Place was a bit slow, but food was good there too. I don't think I had a single BAD place, just some I liked more than others.

The waiter did also tell us they were having some electrical issues in the back at the time we vistied, where half the kitchen apparently wasn't working, so that explains why the food was so slow to come out.

I know you like jam band stuff so you might already be aware. Warren Haynes(Allman Bros Band, Gov't Mule, etc) puts on the Xmas Jam at the Asheville civic center every year in mid December. It's a big charity concert where he invites all these great jam bands to play. He'll always come out during their sets to play a song or two with them. Concert starts around 8pm and lasts until about 3am. Tickets are generally on the cheaper side.

I live a couple of hours away. Always heard it was a cool town, but I've never been.

Although, there's apparently a pinball museum in Gatlinburg, which is WAY closer. I wonder how they compare?
