the Midgar part of the original was like 3 - 6 hours, but they were somehow able to turn those 3 - 6 hours into a game that takes just as long to beat as the entirety of the original* and make it flow so well that you wouldn't even notice. This is fantastic. I can't wait for the next part.

*I played FF7 with 3x speed, so really even though I beat it in 30 hours it was probably closer to 90 in reality if I hadn't used the speed up.

I enjoyed it, but I don't think Midgar needed to be an entire game. It was the worst part of the original and will likely be the worst part of this. At about the halfway mark I wished I could leave the city and it left a sour taste in my mouth to realize it'd be years before I got to explore outside of the city.

Next you'll get to explore Kalm only.

I didn't even imagine that. That would be... very odd. Kalm flashback transported into a 40 hour game, lol... I'm down!

GET OUT!

It was great all around. I don't think it needed a full game still, but it was very interesting in the original.

Aside from the atrocious change to the story that led up to an even worse ending, it was a very good game. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they were trying to aim for a clean slate deal with the story changes.

The OST updates/changes were incredibly good, the expansion of the existing characters backstories was great, and overall the battle gameplay was solid. But I think they overdid it with the a good deal of the sidequests - they're mostly just standard boring 'open world' sidequests. And there are parts that drag on. I'm also incredibly annoyed that I wasn't able to go into the secret room in the bar.

The soundtrack is the best part of it, by far.

So many great rearrangements. They could have used the Distant Worlds recordings for half the pieces and gotten away with it, but they went the extra mile.

I agree, I was pretty hesitant about the change to the battle system and that it was only part of the original game, but I bought it on sale a few months after it came out and it was was a top 3 game for me last year. The nostalgia of the original does help though.

The battle system is also very good. One of the best blends of action and menu combat I've played.

The changes to the story were weird. I liked the stuff that was expanded upon or added (even the Motorcycle SOLDIER guy). But the stuff about Phantom Time Cops... Makes me feel like it was an attempt to justify any other alterations to the plot

Did they finish the one quest with the sick guy? I forget how it was supposed to be done exactly. Though I think it was only after you returned to Midgar anyway.

Thats what I figured. It wasn't enough to make me hate the story but it was very deus ex machina and ruins the build up you saw with Sephiroth in the OG. If I recall correctly, you don't really see anything of old Sephy until the flashback in Kalm in OG?

But I enjoyed the Soldier stuff too. I'm hoping they become kind of a staple. I'd like to see more of their eccentric attitudes like the one was. Kinda like Megaman stage bosses.

Id like for them to finish the story in just one more installment but you know they are gonna want to go big with The Golden Saucer and Cosmo Canyon so I imagine the game is gonna end either at the latter or maybe even after Cid joins the group.

I was sarcastic in my original post but I'm expecting Junon to be it's own game.
