It's good for what it does, but Bloodborne had a much better 'piece it together' kind of storyline. I would've given that a much higher score.

The plot may be straightforward but I love the way the story is handed out in a very game-y way through the environment and descriptions, and I'm all about that ludonarrative. It's fun to obsess over in-game and then think about as you die a bunch. That said, I think the best thing about the story of DS1 is how it serves for a great base for 2 and 3 to build up and tear down.

I haven't really done a deep dive into absolutely all of the lore, but I tried to pay attention to everything while playing and it's just not all that interesting. I like the stories in other lore-based games more (Metroid Prime, Hollow Knight) so I think some of it is just not finding the writing or setting all that appealing.

Don't wanna delve too deeply into why I love FromSoftware stories and their lore so much because it will be a wall of text so all I'm gonna say is the kind of vague presentation of the story is the perfect compliment to the type of game Dark Souls is.
