More responsibility. Less time with my kids. 10 cents more an hour. No more afternoons or evenings off. Have to have open availability.

But it comes with the title of Lead Supervisor. Take it or leave it? Note its $16.00 an hour. I know. I know. You all make $30 an hour and are attorneys and programmers etc. I however live in Indiana where nobody cares about us and our minimum wage is still $7.25

Isn't that, like, only $200 extra a year before taxes? Don't take the job if you're not planning on advancing in the field or to a different job that would need the resume fluff.

That's tough for me because you said less time with your kids. It doesn't seem worth it to me unless there's good potential for moving up by proving yourself in this position, and if that is more lucrative.

As I get older I find that losing out on time with my kids is getting tougher and tougher for me to be okay with.

Also, open availability and nights and weekends are tough with kids which is one of the main reasons I haven't left my job (I work 7-5 M-F and every other Saturday 8-12).

For .10 more, for me, I would probably decline giving what you've said. That basically amounts to $208 before taxes if you work all 40 hour work weeks.

What are you career goals?

Think about how much value lead supervisor is actually going to give you to attain those goals, and how many years youll need to have that title to accrue that value.

If youre thinking of getting the title just to have it, Id skip it and focus your energies elsewhere.

By itself, no, but what kind of pay bump comes from the promotion *after* that?

Sometimes it takes a few shitty promotions to break through to a much more significant bump. At my first job it was a few 25cent raises before my pay suddenly doubled

My family, leisure time and stress levels aren't worth 10 cents. That's a bullshit test, not adequate compensation. If you take that, they'll continue to take advantage of your life force. 10 - 20% is what you should be seeking for a promotion. Ask for 2 dollars more or politely decline.

Agree with everyone else saying that it's a trash raise. Honestly even without kids and whatnot I don't think it would be worth it. It sounds like you are doing a lot more and sacrificing more of yourself for no real extra benefit.

Add in that you have a family and you are sacrificing that time, fuck that.

I hate the work culture in this country. You should not have to sacrifice so much of your life to be able to provide for yourself and your family.

This is how you get stuck tbh. It's hard work looking for a job and if he now will have to work nights and weekends, even harder to find the energy to fill out applications and schedule job interviews around his crazy schedule.

I wouldn't take on the extra work and hours for an extra dollar per hour. 10 cents is beyond offensive, and if that's what they value their sups at, you should look around.

Its a lot better than trying to move laterally for equal or less pay, or just staying put. If he desires to move up quickly, he can use the shit job as a stepping stone. The title on the resume would give him a leg up on 90% of the applicants hed be going up against. Within the year hed be in a more desirable position.

Is it a lot better though? There's no guarantee there will be jobs that will hire him and he's giving up time with his family and a study schedule for practically nothing extra, and hoping that there will be jobs that will hire him with a small amount of "lead" experience.

Doesn't seem worth it tbh. And honestly, the extra .10 per hour, being so low, feels super disrespectful.
