I enjoyed most of the episode. Felt like a great mini movie production. Romeo and Juliet dont know what theyre missing.

It's a good episode but I imagine the show will be quite polarizing. CE already has a 200 post topic about people who hate the idea of time cops in the MCU.

I'm also curious how far they'll go with the idea of Loki as a sympathetic character. He's not the only villain who got a redemption arc, but he's probably the one who's guilty of the most, out of the narcissistic belief that he was destined for greatness.

Arguably that's not, and has never really been, his motivation.

The first Thor movie more or less spells out that Loki didn't actually give a shit about being king, he just (100% correctly) pointed out that Thor wasn't ready for/didn't deserve it. Then most of the time he spent during the rest of the movie trying to be king, it was in the middle of an emotional breakdown having discovered Odin wasn't actually his real father (not helped by the fact that Odin has always been a really shitty dad). Loki pretty much says straight out when they're fighting on the Rainbow Bridge that all he really wanted to do was prove to Odin that he was worthy of being his son. Loki's main motivation was a pathological need for love and acceptance, that he felt like he never got from Odin (because he probably didn't - again, Odin's kind of a HUGE dick).

Then in Avengers, he's playing over-the-top villain, but it's also pretty clear he's not really acting under his own volition. It's implied pretty strongly that he wound up getting rescued by Thanos after the end of Thor, and was pressured into doing Thanos' bidding. Loki in Avengers always looks kind of tired, haunted, and is basically running a scheme that barely benefits him at all (and we straight-up see Thanos at the end of the movie). One could argue that at that point, he's still kind of pissed at Thor and just emotionally screwed up in general, but is also acting mostly under duress.

You could argue that his motivation shifts vis-a-vis Dark World/Ragnarok, but it's worth remembering that THIS Loki never actually went through those events.

The MCU has been going pretty strongly with the "No villain is really 100% evil, and most have justifications for why they act the way they do" theme, and Loki kinds of fits right into that mold. If anything, the real narcissist and megalomaniac up to this point has been the Red Skull (with Obadiah Stane and Ronan potentially in the mix). Even Darren Cross (who is a huge asshole) kind of has a bit of justification behind some of his issues with Hank Pym.
