I'll start with SMT IV

Great gameplay (some of the best I've ever experienced in a turn based RPG), amazing OST (I'm listening to it currently at work and it's what inspired me to make this topic) and intriguing concept

But I just couldn't get past that oppressive atmosphere :/

Breath of the Wild

I'm a massive Zelda fan but the world seems too big and it takes forever to get anywhere plus I feel like I'm perpetually weak and don't have an easy way of getting ruppees so I can't upgrade my shit and keep dying and the whole breaking weapons thing really isn't helping with that either.

Cyberpunk 2077

Even with the flaws I heard about it I wanted to get into it, but the world feeling so lifeless made it hard for me to do so.

Dark Souls. My brother is obsessed with DS so I bought the HD Remaster. I can't get into it. Sekiro is alright but couldn't get into it either.

I really had high hopes for The Outer Worlds but it felt like a stunted Fallout.

I've also given Actraiser and Ogre Battle multiple chances but can't get into them despite the high praise.

I tried to play FF12 like 4 different times and just completely lost interest in the story after maybe 15-20 hours every single time. I also hated the battle and leveling systems. And yes, the last attempt was the Zodiac version. It wasn't any better.

Also Witcher 3. I could objectively see that it was a great game. But I just couldn't get into the combat and I had zero interest in the stuff like crafting/potion making and Gwent. Probably put like 20 hours into that as well before quitting.

EDIT: Add RDR2 to my list, too. The first one is one of my favorite games ever, but the second one's world just didn't captivate me the way the first one did.

League of Legends

Chrono Trigger. I was real hyped for the ds remaster, because everyone and their mother had been talking up how great it is for years, and I had no way to get my hands on it.

It was meh. All the cool techs are redundant before you even get them, and the story had no original writing to it. It wasn't bad, but I was waiting for it to get good.

I wanted to get into Dragon Age, but I couldn't. Too much lore, too difficult (or maybe i suck), too slow, not enough fun in early game for non-mage characters.

I started FFVIII like twelve different times, got bored by the train segment every time. I just cant give a fuck about any of these people or their problems lol.

Basically any kind of management simulation game. I can watch someone like sips play Cities Skylines or Sim City for hours, but the games themselves bore the hell out of me. I just need some kind of direction in games, I can't make my own fun like that.

Ditto, but I did play the entire game. I just straight-up didn't like it. Some Colossi were boring and some were just aggravating.

I just can't get into Monster Hunter, and I've tried every major entry since Tri. The gameplay loop does nothing for me, and I feel like I'm missing something.

Persona 5.

I wasn't feeling it, at all, from early on, but I thought that I should give it a chance.

I played until I got to the boss fight of the burger/space palace, and I just felt like I reached my absolute limit to tolerate the game.

If it's Witcher 1, I almost recommend cheating in max Igni skills to just faceroll everything. The combat is definitely bad, but pretty much everything else is a great RPG.

I meant the entire series. 3 isn't bad, but it's just not that engaging to me gameplay wise.

FFVIII - it's the only FF main title that I've not been able to finish. FFVII is my favourite game ever but just couldn't get into VIII and I tried it a few times.

The Witcher III - really like the lore and the game looks good but the gameplay just didn't click with me and I just have no desire to go back and continue playing it

For me it's the combat, I get that it's supposed to feel slow and weighty, but you never get satisfying reactions out of the monsters for all the effort you put into each swing, so it just come across as clunky.

Ya'll should try Witcher 2. Its combat is just baaaaad. The animations and everything make it seem like an action game. It's not. It's an action bar combat game like WoW. So whether you hit is determined the instant you hit the button, even if the animations don't match. For instance, there's a fight where a monster breathes fire at you. If you look closely, Geralt is set on fire if he's standing in the targeted AoE at the start of the attack, not when the fire actually spreads out across the battlefield.

I dunno, knocking a charging monster on its ass with a big swing felt fine to me. My main problem with the combat was that it wasn't as in-depth or clever or tactical as it should have been in a game that revolved around it. Needed way more traps and stuff to control the arena.

I mean sure there are some canned animations/fight phases you can trigger, but for the most part your are setting up big swings that feel like you're hitting an unmoving, unfeeling brick wall.

Beginning is just so...boring, and easy to get lost if you put the game down for a day. idk if it's a Switch thing but I've been experiencing input lag which *really* fucks me up.

I've tried a few times with the most recent God of War - the weird thing is that I really like it when I'm playing it, and I definitely think it's a great game, I just tend to taper off relatively early on each time I pick it up, and I really don't know why.

FF12 is something you had to play when it was new. I loved the shit out of that game (my first FF game, 3 playthroughs completed) on PS2, I picked it up again recently when it came out on PC and it was godawful and absolutely ruined my fond memory of the game.

I'd buy that. I didn't necessarily dislike it, I just couldn't get into a flow that was satisfying for me. There were some gambits that I wish existed that didn't and the pacing was weird sometimes. I did enjoy the characters for the most part though for what I played

Agreed. This is my biggest issue with MH.

Too many to list, pretty much every game these days. One really notable one was Enter the Gungeon, its in every way exactly what I want out of a game, but it just felt terrible to actually play. Also Resident Evil VII was too scary for me.
