Wow really? That's kinda cool. Have they updated it at all? Seems like it would be an easy app to create instead of selling them physically

They looks classic. I shoulda grabbed one for the hell of it.

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/toys-games-original-tamagotchi/32578212?ean=0045557427986

Even selling them online for 20 dollars right now. Can literally scroll the images and see a crazy amount of designs.

I'll be in the city tomorrow to escort my mother for her second vaccine. There's a Barnes and Noble in the area. If I remember, I'll check and see if they have them at this one too.

My mother sold all of my Transformers and GI Joes. I had literally all of them.

Its been almost thirty years and I still havent forgiven her. Hurts worse than when she threw out the baseball cards Id saved. That was just money.

not to nitpick, but I think the original of these came out in the 60s; there was an old set of those metal plates in the basement of my grandparents' house when I was little, and I'm their oldest grandchild, so they almost certainly belonged to my Mom's brother...

Anybody remember this bad boy?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScmLeMY3XoI

Anyway, on to my traumatic Transformers childhood experience. @divot1338

Me and my brother saved up our meager allowances week after week, and we blew it all on the most awesome Transformer we ever owned, Generation 2 Megatron. In TANK FORM. Observe:

https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/6/6c/G2Megatron_toy.jpg/800px-G2Megatron_toy.jpg

Clearly the best Transformer ever. We loved it. Played with all the time, proudly displayed it first amongst all our other Transformers (we were big on Transformers in case you can't tell).

Then one day, whilst my brother and I were chilling in our room together, we hear this stomping coming from up the stairs. The door bursts open, and my dad is there, furious.

"Which one is it?" he growls, teeth clenched. And we know he's talking about Megatron. Shaking, we point to him on the shelf. Our dad proceeds to grab Megatron, put him on the ground, and SMASH him into a hundred pieces. Me and my brother are literally sobbing as we watch him destroy our favorite toy that we saved up our allowance for.

When finished, he just leaves and we pick up the pieces. To this day, we never knew why he did that. We have two theories:

1) Our dad was super stressed with work at the time, and money was tight, and he didn't like the idea of us kids spending money on a toy. He could have come home from work one day, our mom let it slip that we bought this toy, and he went into a rage and destroyed it. What doesn't make sense is he's the one who gave us our allowances. What did he expect us to spend it on, the power bill?

2) Our household was a Jehovah's Witness one, and they're super strict about violence, guns, war toys, things like that, or at least they were back in the early 90s. He could have come home--again, stressed and generally pissed off from work--but in this theory all the religion stressors added to the rage too (in the JW religion, they will punish the parent with taking away privledges if their children don't act right, and my sisters were sluttin' it up at the time, thus putting stress on my dad), and then when he heard we bought a tank toy it set him off, ironically showing us the most violent display we'd seen in our short lives thus far.

Anyway, that was the day my dad went from being a father figure to an enemy to be avoided and lied to. To this day my brother and I still bring it up sometimes.

I had the Laser Tag stuff. My dad gave one of his old briefcases that I added the styrofoam insert from inside the original packaging.

Then I could walk around like a typical ten year old with a briefcase just in case a laser tag fight broke out.

I remember the first time I realized the concept of "build quality". Doc Piranoid's figurine, that villain the giant hook, was tough, dense, and weighty. Very large for a kids toy, and unlike a lot of my toys over the years, it never broke or showed much wear. That plastic must've been nintendium.
