I lost the coinflip on Zhongli and had to fight pretty hard to get back to pity again. Fortunately I still had a decent amount of starglitter to bridge the gap.

Is the game worth getting into at this point? I don't like that it's a gacha but I'm craving a BotW clone. How badly would the gacha elements affect a latecomer?

The storyline difficulty is pretty low, and F2P people can beat even the high end dungeon that's the only real end game content.

Id say yeah. Its a pretty good BotW clone at the start. And with the next update, the world will get even bigger. Lots of players here are F2P.

Which elements of BotW are you craving? The art, the open world, the climb-anywhere are all very BotW-centric, along with plenty to explore, but the similarities end there. Genshin is a game built around building a team of four and switching between them for their skills or to produce elemental reactions. You'll get dozens of hours of gameplay just in searching the world and doing the quests, and you can do all that for free using the default starters, so my instinct is to say that it would be worth it. I just want to make sure I know what you're looking for.

As for the gacha elements, you can play the game with literally any characters. There are more potent teams if you can get others from the proverbial gumball machine, but if you're not trying to play "endgame" content -- which is a very different beast of character building and intrinsic progression -- you can basically ignore that if you choose to.

Just don't spend any money unless you decide you want to commit to a gambling addiction. If you get to Adventure Rank (account level) 30 and decide you want to keep going, you can make that decision then.

Got an hour or two in - what's the best way to get Wishes? Got far enough to do a full pull, but I don't like any of the characters I got so I'm considering re-rolling until I end up with one person I really like that I can use for most of the game.

Also is Amber supposed to be so terrible?

You generally get wishes by exchanging primogems, which you get through a bunch of different methods, including $$$. You also get a couple from the monthly shop and a couple from the Battle Pass, although unless you buy the upgraded version you only get the standard banner wishes. And then there are occasional login events that give them out. I'm not sure how generous the game is to new players right now, though. There aren't a lot of ways to accumulate a lot to reroll with, I don't think.

Amber solves some early game puzzles but is generally considered the worst character in the game.

I got Noelle (who I think was guaranteed) and Xingqiu. Honestly I'd be okay with most characters who don't look like they're 12 years old, which is all I have right now!

You can do better, mostly because Noelle + 1 4/5 star is the minimum, but Xingqiu is excellent for late game content. Still, I'm sure you'd rather play with someone you like more, which makes sense.

Which banner should I be rolling on to maximize my chances of getting other characters?

Well, the Beginner Banner while you have it is the best value option. Beyond that, just avoid the weapon banner, the one in the middle.

I meant on an initial full pull - wasn't sure if Noelle being guaranteed would reduce my chances of getting other characters.

The thing is that tthe beginner banner, not only does it give you 10 pulls for the price of 8, you can also only get characters. You don't wanna waste your first 10, more epxensive pulls, on the other banners and come up with weapons and no characters instead.

So just do your 20 beginner pulls first.

Maxed out Windtrace coins and completed all the challenges except Hunter Hunch one. I lost nearly every game this morning with only one run as the hunter. I'd play more, but I really should prioritize actual farming

Finished Misty Dungeon this morning. It was fun using not only characters I don't have, but seeing the potential of characters I just haven't built up. Personal favorite from the event was Amber

Using Keqing was fun. Was also nice to see how Beidou and Xinyan are when built up. I mostly just used Noelle and Sucrose along with some amount of Diona, Keqing, Albedo and Mona. Amber who? lol

I honestly don't think there's much incentive to grind it unless you want to show off your house to people and want it to look cool in the next six weeks.

I thought I would be, too, but it's really not that big a deal. Just do it on Saturday so you can buy from the traveling merchant.
