Billionaire Elon Musk has admitted that a "bunch of people will probably die" during SpaceX's first initial voyage to Mars when it opens to the public but insisted it will still be a GLORIOUS ADVENTURE and amazing experience of a LIFETIME before death!!

He talked with Peter Diamonds, the founder of the X Prize Foundation where he said he hopes to get humans to Mars by 2026, 7 years before NASA aims to land astronauts on the Red Planet

But the barefoot Musk warned "Going to Mars reads like that advert for Shackleton going to the Antarctic. You know it is dangerous, it's uncomfortable and it's a long journey. You might not come back alive but it's a glorious adventure and honestly, a bunch of people will die in the beginning"

SpaceX brought spaceflight back to America in May last year by launching NASA astronauts from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida to the ISS, an event that hasn't happened in a decade.

Musk told the Good Times Show his goal was to establish a self sustaining Martian civilization and wants humans to live on a new planet.

NASA plans to put the first humans on Mars by 2033 as part of the Artemis program that will have the first man and woman land on the Moon in 2024 but Musk wants to do this before that happens so he can have the bragging rights but will have to fast track technical advancements before 2026 to do this such as the Starship has to be fully reusable and can reach orbit where it is able to refuel ready for the long 6 month trip.

To bypass a decent sized space station, colonizing the moon etc, and go directly to mars, you need to do a few things first.

You A: Need to send many unmanned ships to mars with a ton of supplies (along with the metal used on the ships being repurposed later). This is vital as you need enough supplies for the people you send later to be able to set up a mining operation to get both metals and water to convert to O2 while there.

You need to also find a place to land it all that has a source of water you can mine down to etc. There is plenty of ice on mars so this shouldn't be a problem, but you need to ensure the landing location can easily access it (you can also collect water through the atmosphere with a machine, but probably not enough by itself).

Done right with enough preperation, you could in theory start sending out multiple ships to get to mars with the supplies you need. If the whole world worked on it, and each large nation tried to launch a ship every month, you could in theory have enough ships up and traveling in half a year to easily support a colonization attempt.

As a world wide effort, we could have ships on the ground with the supplies needed by 2023, and within a year after that (2024) have people there building and colonizing the planet.

But yeah, that would require the world to work together towards a common goal, and to prioritize that goal, over...you know...profits....which isn't going to happen.

There is some talk that a mission to mars would not have any plans for an immediate return, so he is being quite accurate talking about the dangers. The trip alone has multiple issues and it would be very difficult to have a ship capable of getting there and back with our current technology.

To put this in perspective the distance to the moon is 239k miles roughly, it's 185 million miles to Mars roughly, so it's only about 774 times as far as going to the moon.

Musk is clearly a batman villain.

The radiation at that point would kill a human in minutes
The solar panels would generate enough electricity to run a kettle

He's a dumbass with a lot of money, sorry if it makes people mad for saying how I feel about it. He thinks he's better than scientists.

I am willing to die but not at the cost of having to go to Mars. Space is boring, traveling through it sounds like a pain in the ass, and death in space does not sound of the quick and painless variety.
