Dailymail has revealed that 21 y/o Former Virginia Tech Soccer Heifer Player, Kiersten Hening is SUING her coach for launching a campaign of verbal abuse and retaliation over her refusal to kneel to support Black Lives Matter and in protest of racism!!

The non-scholarship player for the Hokies filed a federal suit against coach, Chugger Adair stating he targeted her because he disliked her for her political views

It says "Because she refused to kneel, he benched her, subjected her to repeated verbal abuse and forced her off the team"

It says her soccer career ended not because of her performance on the field but because of her conservative political beliefs...

It says because of her coach's actions, she can no longer play the game she loves despite having 2 more years of NCAA eligibility and violated her constitutional rights and is demanding money for her legal and equitable punitive and nominal damages as well as lawyer fees and for the coach to undergo first amendment training.

It says Kiersten stayed strong to her beliefs while she remained the only player who refused to kneel during the national anthem and not have BLM logos on her jersey during games.

Adair is being represented by the school's attorney and is the all-time leader in wins

Her status suffered in 2020 when all the Virginia Tech soccer players knelt in protest against racism with a unity statement while Hening stood. She said Adair responded with anger that they stood and berated her for her stance

Hening claims she supports "social justice" and believes in black lives matter but she made it very clear she DOESN'T support the BLM movement and believes they are anti-police and anti-america. She was also one of the few TRUMP SUPPORTERS on the team which didn't end well with other female players

She clashed with her teammates and took screenshots of the back and forth where eventually she lost her starting role and then quit the team entirely

Adair is one of the most successful soccer coaches in the ACC as they have made 7 NCAA appearances

She was not the one bringing any of it up, her coach was forcing her to participate in a specific political protest to be on her team.

That has nothing to do with sports and so it doesn't make sense to punish for it.

So long as you have the rule "Players should be free to kneel if they choose to as a form of self expression/protest" you by definition pretty much have the rule, "specific political self expression can't be mandatory for participation on a team." because if it were the coach would have to advocate kneeling before a player could kneel.

Put simply: You shouldn't be able to discriminate in sports due to political party, which is explicitly what is going on here. Anybody who thinks "No, political discrimination is cool." You understand that would mean it would be ok for a southern school to be equally cruel to their liberal students, right?

I don't understand some of you. Like how can you not see 1 second in front of you to the negative consequence of advocating for a stance of "coaches punishing those they politically disagree with should be allowed".

If they really benched her just because she didn't kneel, that's fucking pathetic. What meaning is a protest if it's not from the heart? Personally the second I see people being badgered to inflate the numbers for a cause, I stop taking that cause seriously. Same goes for if a player was being forced not to kneel.

If she was just benched because she was a mediocre player, and is now trying to deflect from that, that's also fucking pathetic.

I'd imagine most people would respond poorly if being politically discriminated against, but there is nothing in there that suggests she was the instigator of the clash or that she was more toxic than her teammates.

She would be better off if she turned into a robot right away, but that's seldom how people react, also documenting the messages was prudent.

All in all, I'd think most people experiencing political discrimination would respond like this or worse. Had she been truly toxic I think we'd have quotes about her saying offensive things to her teammates or being physically or verbally aggressive.

From what this story covers, the coach is the only one currently accused of verbal abuse.

Assuming they can't reconcile/work together. But considering they apparently functioned as a successful team for some time I'd imagine there would be a way for a good leader to defuse the situation.

Exactly, I think (hope) that the bias in the poll results comes from people spending such a limited time comprehending the story that in their cursory glance understanding of the topic to them the poll question is "do you dislike republicans"?

Because anybody engaging this on a cognitive/intellectual level surely would see that taking a stance against her is also taking a stance against people's right to kneel on a team that doesn't advocate it.
