So consider seeing Rei's arm slough off her body, Gendo fuckin copping a feel until his hand passes completely through her tit, Rei getting eaten by a sideways mouth that comes out of a creature's chest... and then all of Instrumentality, including the live action part. As a 12 year old newcomer to the series. As a 12 year old whose primary exposure to anime up to that point was Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. I don't think enough people step back and acknowledge how weird End of Evangelion is on its own.
