Have they mentioned anything about how or if multiplayer will work? Doesn't look like the thing that local co-op would work well with but maybe online could?

Maybe I'll actually pick this one up and then continue my streak of not completing a Tales game since Vesperia.

That release date is so hard to believe considering we've actually seen almost nothing on this game up to this point, but I don't feel like they'd announce it to be just five months away if they weren't confident.

Crazy it's been such a long time since the last game considering how quickly they used to fire them out. I really hope this game takes full advantage of having all that time to cook and really knocks it out of the park.

It looks to me like there's still post-battle quotes; they just happen alongside the rest of the battle results that are now being integrated straight back into overworld exploration.

That might cut it for 7 remake and any other big budget jrpg, but this is Tales, man. I want some really weird mini cutscenes after every battle.

My only real complaint here is I'm not a huge fan of the faces on the models. Feels like they tried to rope back the anime on the models even though they didn't do so in the character designs, they all look real stiff when they're talking.

While we're not remotely at that level, I do not like anything that makes me think of Star Ocean 4 in the slightest.

9/9 is JP but it comes out the next day worldwide. Pretty big deal since as of the last game we still had a ~1 year wait for an English release.

This looks fun. Looks like the environments will be a little more interesting than standard tales games. Also not sure what you guys mean about no more end battle quotes cuz there was one part after a fight ended where it had the pink haired girls face portrait in the bottom left with some text next to it. So it seems like they'll still be there, just you'll get to move around during it. I guess that means you won't get any silly animations to go with them but those were pretty few and far between anyway

This will not be a hard bar to clear. Tales games have some of the worst environments of any JRPG and I'm glad to see them actually trying this time around.

Berseria looks, sounds, and plays siginficantly better than Zestiria, despite only being less than two years newer. I think they've already started to get the point.

It'll be interesting to see were this one goes.

Berseria had the issue of extremely REPETITIVE copy and paste environments, though, even if some of the actual textures were a little better. Variety is the main thing here, I think.

I wouldn't go THAT far, if you wanna see what that really looks like check out Star Ocean 5...or don't.

But Berseria dungeons are very bad, definitely the only flaw that really bothers me in the game.

This is an exaggeration, but I agree they were nothing to write home about.

Environments and dungeon design are by a fair margin the absolute least important aspect of JRPGs to me, but I guess I'm maybe the minority there.

Well, the trailer showed off the bare-handed fighter as well, and there's that older fellow at ~23 seconds that could potentially be one as well - wouldn't be surprised either way on him.

I think 6 total is the most likely number since that's generally the average Tales size, certainly no more than 7.

I never did get very far in Berseria. Now this is coming out, and Berseria is worth a fraction of what I paid for it. I still want to know what the deal was with killing the kid in the beginning.

Tbh I'm fine with multiplayer getting dropped. I've had a good amount of fun and plenty of fond memories with it, but some of the more recent games barely accommodated it due to their mechanics. (The Xillia games and Zestiria with >2 players especially.)

I think I'd rather they just not be constrained at all in their game design at this point.

Tales multiplayer has never worked great. Not too surprised they decided to drop it in favor of focusing.

I've been extremely surprised by how many folks I've seen calling multiplayer a make-or-break thing for them in Tales; never would've expected that would be the case for more than a select few. Dunno where y'all are all getting these friends that'll play through 40+ hour JRPGs through you when most of the time they're just watching player one explore the overworld and a lot of combat instances only last a few seconds.
