I mean Ill respect other peoples pronouns(I cant do neopronouns but across the internet Ive seen like 2-3 people total that ask for them) but when it comes to me I really dont give a crap. I get a bit happy from stuff that isnt she/her because Im afab and everyone in my actual life uses them and its a nice change when internet people assume Im a guy or something but idk. I dont know how to approach this whole gender identity thing. If I could just delete any need for a gender from my whole existence I would tbh.

They and theirs sometimes, but only in reference to a group of people. Usually an entire company.

So let's say you and another friend are discussing your friend Anthony. Which conversation is more realistic here:

"Where Anthony?"
"Oh, he want to the store!"
"What'd he go there for? We're good on food."
"He wanted to get some candy."

or

"Where's Anthony?"
"Oh, Anthony went to the store!"
"What'd Anthony go there for? TDC and Doc are good on food." (note: this sentence is said by either TDC or Doc)
"Anthony wanted to get some candy."

The longer you talk about someone, the weird it gets to not use any pronouns to refer to them.

The mods have openly stated that they mod on a whim and only need the agreement of a few to get a moderation. In other words, it's not longer about enforcing rules, but simply catering to the consensus of openly biased and questionable individuals. Who needs rules and facts when you're offended?

It's totally valid to view your gender identity however you want. you can just tell people 'any pronouns are fine' or whatever if they ask you.

And a lot of nonbinary people do think of gender as something they don't want or don't have any use for. Like, it is a socially constructed set of roles and restrictions - in an objective sense it doesn't really matter. I care about people perceiving me as a woman because of stuff inside my head, not because i belong to some perfectly logical ideal category called 'woman'

I'm with you TC. I don't really identify as "male", but I don't mind people using "he/him/his" pronouns about me. I also don't mind she/her or they/them/theirs. I more or less feel like gender is a social construct we don't need, so I prefer to think of myself as agendered.

that said, I'll use whatever pronouns other people want used about them. It's no issue at all.

That's more or less my attitude toward the whole thing. The whole concept of gender identity issues fundamentally relies on gender being a meaningful element of one's identity, which is really pretty pointless. I'd be kidding myself if I tried to say that people's gender doesn't shape some of my expectations for and attitudes toward them, but I also recognize that it really shouldn't, and that only happens because I've grown up in a world where that's normal.

At the end of the day, the only practical consequence my junk has is whether or not I can pee standing up, what sort of options I have when it comes to sex, and whether or not I'll ever have the option of getting pregnant (and the subsequent implications of that). None of those things are particularly identity-defining, and anything else that's attached to me being male doesn't need to be. We stop treating gender as anything meaningful, and I imagine gender identity disorders would decline pretty significantly.

I have never once seen you post anything that suggests you have any comprehension of the concepts of civility or manners. You being moderated has nothing to do with your opinions (excepting the opinions that no decent person would ever hold, since merely holding such opinions falls under the umbrella of what I'm about to say) and everything to do with your refusal to behave in a manner that is welcome in a civilized, polite community.

Again, slowly, you just suck at following the rules. Try not being openly hostile to everyone, and maybe you'll have better luck.

Eeyup. This right-wing victim complex is really quite ridiculous. The only "right-wing views" that get "censored" are the ones that outright treat certain people as sub-human, and frankly, those views deserve to rot in whatever cesspool they were pulled from because the world is better off without them. Joking about/celebrating deaths is moddable across the board, no matter how much of a sack of festering diarrhea the person in question was. Holding right-wing views on matters like gun control, small government, or fiscal conservatism isn't moddable at all unless you start directly insulting everyone that disagrees with you (which is what's actually moddable, not the views themselves).

If you get modded, it's because you broke the rules. They're really not hard to follow. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been modded that I didn't see coming (lumping one large-scale batch of moderations into a single count, since it was all for the same thing at the same time and was a consequence of a mod nuking an ASCII topic). If you can't, it's because you suck at following the rules. Do better.

It's not a big deal, purposefully misgendering someone is a dick move, and as long as I get a quick "her" after I said something wrong, it's fine.

I, personally, don't care so much for the weirder pronouns, like xer and zer, but, that's because I don't want to deal with new words on a daily basis. I don't have anything wrong with it.

Because I will never remember, I will call you how you appear. If I call you a dude and you are a chick (or vice versa) I'll probably feel bad and try to correct it. But if you expected to be called something else, I don't really see how that would be my fault since I have no way of knowing.

I remember that, and presumably, you were modded for spreading misinformation in a manner that was deliberately intended to insult the entire left. Your wording was not ambiguous; you were attacking everyone who disagreed with your position. That's what you got modded for, not for misinterpreting reality (though you should perhaps take that as an indication that you should better research such matters before jumping to conclusions and disseminating those conclusions as fact). Fair, next.

As for a misdemeanour being pretty minor, it's still very distinct from something not being illegal. Most importantly, though, it brings HIV in line with other STI's, which is reasonable given that modern treatment and prevention options mean it's pretty comparable to them in terms of severity. There's an argument to be made that failing to disclose any STI to a sexual partner should be treated more harshly than it is (really, it's a form of rape, since you're denying your partner the ability to make an informed decision to consent), but there's no reason to put HIV on a pedestal and treat it more harshly than the others. If you think there is, present your reasoning, rather than preemptively insulting anyone that doesn't automatically agree with your unsubstantiated stance.

The_tall_midget posted...

Because you're you and you have a rather spectacular victim complex and inability to take responsibility for your routine misbehaviour, I'm going to guess that what you actually mean by this is "the mods have said that stuff generally only gets modded if a bunch of people mark it, and sometimes one or more additional mods will have to back up a deletion before it goes through." Which is pretty reasonable, given that policing the entire site proactively is quite the undertaking. That's not a grand conspiracy to keep everyone with dissenting opinions down, it just means that people that deliberately act in a manner that's bound to bother large numbers of users (remember that time that you explicitly announced that you were just going to respond to every issue by taking whichever side would most piss off feminists? Pepperidge Farm remembers.) will find themselves moderated more often than people that grew out of their rebellious teenage edgelord phase before hitting their 20's.

Once again, learn some goddamn manners, and maybe you'll be able to stay out of purg for more than a month. It's really not hard. I figured out how to do it when I was 13, and not because I was an exceptionally intelligent 13-year-old.

Pretty much. As much as people online like to whine about not wanting to be horribly berated for accidentally misgendering strangers, that's really quite rare. The vast majority of genderqueer folks are quite understanding of the fact that people tend to assume based on appearances, and that even among friends, it's easy to forget. What determines whether or not somebody will be treated as an asshole for that mistake is whether or not they act like an asshole: Apologizing and correcting oneself fixes the entire problem. Doubling down on it and blaming "snowflakes" for not lining up with their preconceived expectations is acting like an asshole, and people should expect to be treated accordingly.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen somebody complain about being treated poorly for accidentally misgendering people that I haven't also seen deliberately misgendering people on a regular basis. I'm sure you all like to think you're clever enough to pretend you just made a mistake, but you aren't, and that's why you're being treated poorly.
