I find it too salty personally. My favorite - ground beef - isn't even on this poll. It provides a nice meaty flavor without as much raw salt hitting your tongue.

I think it's just a common topping... Like even at parties where pizza is involve, usually pepperoni has the most, followed by cheese, sausage, and meat lovers, followed by other stuff depending on the people there. Supreme is one I see quite a few of...

I can also understand ground beef not being on the poll. While it is a good topping, I would say it's less popular than most of the toppings on the poll... It's could possibly beat chicken, but not completely sure about that...

Pretty much. Pepperoni is quite widely considered to be the default starting place whenever people move beyond plain cheese, unless they're specifically aiming to make a vegetarian pizza. Exceptions exist, certainly, but the majority of multi-topping pizzas include pepperoni in there somewhere.

It covers the lack of really good cheese better than anything.

A GREAT pizza needs no toppings because the sauce and cheese combine with a thin but crispy crust to create the ultimate flavor combination.

The thing is most people have never had GREAT pizza even once, so they are like, just cheese, what are you insane!?

Now, don't get me wrong, I like a pizza with lots of toppings, pepporoni + sausage + onions + bell peppers + mushrooms + olives for instance is delicious (and i'm down for ground beef on there as well).

About the only topping I don't like on a pizza at all is anchovies, although I'm not a massive fan of pinapple either tbh (on my pizza mind you).

But yeah, I'd rate pizza in general on a scale of 1-9, with the very few and hard to find 10's being a whole separate scale, and worthy of having with just cheese (anything else just detracts from the majesty).

When I went back to NY in 2019 for my grandfathers funeral (sad), I went to a pizza place and it was meh, but then I ordered from another place that my grandfather used (found it in his house) from long island and all the family members that were there decended on that pizza like drug addicts that had not had their drug of choice in decades. It was so good, it transcended pizza and probably reminded my hide brain of days in the distant past where I had it and explained why I once flew to NY for pizza (but was dissapointed as it wasn't as good as I remember).

A great cheese pizza can be had many places in the US, not just NY, but you have more places in NY with them then most others I believe.

IF I have to choose JUST ONE topping to put on a pizza though to add flavor because the sauce/cheese just doesn't cut it, that one topping would pretty much always be pepperoni basically. It can turn a blah pizza into a meh pizza and a meh pizza into something pretty satisfying/tasty.

But if there is such a thing as ambrosia, I think it is probably a plain cheese pizza with the perfect sauce and cheese combination on a nice thin crust.

If I can only have one topping, then pepperoni is my usual choice. But my preferred order is sausage, mushrooms and green peppers.

That said, there is a noticeable difference between good pepperoni and the lowest common denominator stuff the cheap pizza shops use. The cheap stuff is dry and saltier, the good stuff has way more flavor but tends to be greasier.

Not really, Ill eat it if thats my only choice. I like pork sausage, ham, bacon, or beef on mine.

This is pure coincidence but I had pepperoni yesterday and it gave me food poisoning. I'll be avoiding it for a little while. This blows

Yup!

Plus outta all the Main 'Pizza' Meats, the way its sliced (thin round shapes) is complimentary to Pizza itself...

As for Ground Beef, i think most would default to Sausage instead (unless you don't want any Pork products)

I usually don't like pepperoni in general unless it is on a pizza. Adds just the right amount of spice (and crunch if you get cup and curl) without overpowering the rest of the ingredients. All the other meats are either too bland or too overpowering.

Best pizza by far is pepperoni and mushroom.

Seeing as how it's the most common pizza topping, I'd imagine so. I definitely like it but it's not my favorite topping. My personal go to is meatball and onion

It's literally the only pizza topping I care about. There are other okay ones but American-style pizza without pepperoni is kinda pointless.

Nothing against ground beef, but it would be like my... fourth or fifth choice of meat for a pizza, specifically.

Ham (preferably with pineapple), sausage, and bacon would be my choices if not just a regular ass Pepperoni

I've had plenty of great pizzas and I can tell you just cheese is fine but it can never match up to a pizza with toppings.

On topic, yeah. Pepperoni pizza is basically the default in the majority of places

I will often just politely decline when offered a pizza with just pepperoni on it.

I want something more. When I buy pizza it's generally something like a creamy garlic sauce with steak, grilled onions and mushrooms. Or alfredo sauce with spinach, mushrooms and grilled chicken.

No way, that one is never super popular. Pepperoni and extra cheese are always above that. Even ham and pineapple are generally used more than sausage I believe.
