I really dislike the word 'octopi' - it's based on a misconception (the -i plural would apply to latin words, not greek words) and just comes across as a hypercorrection by people who really want to sound smart but it's really not. It's popular enough usage that you're not really wrong if you say it, but if you were gonna use an old plural form like that octopodes both sounds better and is more accurate - but it's less popular. As far as english plural go, octopuses is sort of ugly and I suspect that's part of the reason why we're looking for an alternative, but that's how we pluralize words. <cite>Paratroopa1 posted [p:952402867] in The Plural...
