Pretty interesting, I always thought America lead. Wonder what happened in Norway.

The Crime Prevention Research Center looked at the death rates that resulted from mass shootings between the years 2009 and 2015. Here are the average death rates, in millions, per country, between 2009 and 2015. The countries are already listed in order of the highest death rates to the lowest median death rates.

• Macedonia 0.337
• Albania 0.206
• Slovakia 0.185
• Switzerland 0.142
• Finland 0.132
• Belgium 0.128
• The Czech Republic 0.123

While Norway has one of the lowest violent crime rates globally, its death rate is the highest on this list.

I wonder how youd really look at the stats to decide on policy, per capita may not be the best way.

Norway had that massacre by Anders Brevhik or however you sell his name.

Since Norway has such a low population it probably very much so skewed their numbers.

Norway's lower population means that their numbers can be vastly skewed by fewer incidents. As for "what happened" with Norway, I'm dismayed that you could forget Anders Brevik happened... especially since it's actually is also referenced in your link.

Right, which made me question doing it by per capita.

I dont remember Brevik at all. Basically somewhat paying attention to current events started for me once residency started in 2017...before that I was just like why not learn about something thatll be remembered in a few decades and relevant to my life. Now I pay attention a little bit, not nearly as much as most people. I still wonder how people hear about so many events.

Im still more interested in learning about stats though so looked more into how thats handled than the event >_<

Because per capita is still the most reliable way of doing it. Otherwise you're looking at raw numbers and then you run into the problem of nations with higher incidences of violence looking less violent than much larger nations with fewer incidences of violence. Per capita has its issues, but it's generally still a better system. That said, there's always the underlying issue that a great many subjects are too complex to be covered by simple top-line views and that data can be interpreted in any number of ways (see also: How to Lie with Statistics.)

Not mocking it per se, but in the sense that many are getting desensitized to the numerous Mass Shootings/Killings that happen so often (which is quite disturbing in itself)
