I'd put X7 and 8 lower than Mighty No 9, but that's not saying much.

I thought MN9 was "fine". It wasn't great, but it got some hate it didn't deserve and a lot of the issues are absolutely issues in the lower quality MM games as well. The dashing mechanic was fun and I actually enjoyed the speed run/single continue challenge modes. Once you got a hang of the mechanics, it wasn't any more difficult than a standard MM title.

There is one level that is absolute trash though, and far and away my least favorite level in any of the MM games. The art style is also hideously ugly and the voice acting is embarrassing. Overall though, if you like MM games this one is disappointing but certainly playable imo.

Haven't played it, but I have played 20XX, and my understanding from the reviews of people who have played both is that 20XX is far superior.

Because MN is better than them (besides MM V)

it's a pretty mediocre game and is around the level of a bad MM game.
however the second character is a lot better and makes the game actually fun.

X7 and Battle Chip Challenge are two official Mega Man games worse than MN9. Stuff like MMBN4, Star Force 2, 2 Game Boy and X6 are in the arguable part (I'd still put MN9 under those.)

Well I only played it for the first time like two years ago
And I was surprised how it's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's really just...not good, but that's it.
X6 is painful. Every stage makes me internally scream "WHO THE FUCK THOUGH THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA"
Like locations that if you go there without the right equipment you have to suicide, you can't go back or continue
Or those damn donuts
Or reploids being killed prevent you from getting 100%
And the random nature of that teleport stage
And those "curses" or whatever they are called that change the stage hazards
And..just..everything. Everything sucks

X7 is not a good game but it's not a pain in the ass like X6 is.

I don't think it's MUCH worse than MM11 although it is worse

Now THIS is a bad take

I didn't like MM11. Bad soundtrack, generally irritating level design, just never felt that good to play. Speedruns of it are very cool, but to be honest, speedruns of MN9 are actually great too.

The best part is how Inafune was also responsible in part for how DmC turned out.

I wish you could set it individually. I love Fuse Man's+Blast Man's, tolerate Impact Man/Block Man's stage on standard, and love Tundra/Torch/Acid Man's on instrumental. And then Bounce Man is just kinda there.

Agree with Nani's on X6. Absolutely the worst designed Mega Man game that I have played.

Haven't played MN9 but it will have to be terrible in catastrophic proportions to dethrone MMX6 from worst Mega Man game ever.

Also this topic is a great opportunity to heavily recommend Mighty Gunvolt Burst (the sequel, the original is shit)
This really is what MN9 was supposed to be. It's a different take on the 8 "robot masters" stages from MN9 and it's fun

MN9 is not so much *terrible* as it is just very very bland. I felt the same way about several early 00s MM games like X5, X6, and Zero 1, so it's hard to say which is worse. But if MN9 were a Mega Man game, it would be among the worst of the worst for sure.

Which part? MM11 being his favorite? Thr double gears systen? both?

I am not a fan of the double gear system either because it made the game too easy
But it never forced me to use it
So why would I care if it's in or not?
If he liked it then there is nothing wrong with it

It's because Inafune was a major proponent of outsourcing franchises to Western game studios, with the idea being that the Japanese gaming industry needed to get with the times.

May not have helped that many gaming outlets began to slam the old DMC games as being outdated camp plus the whole Tameem saga, basically being one of the first cases of "gamers vs. the media" which would become more prominent as the decade wore on.

I beat 11 without using the gear system. Mostly because my right bumper is hard to press because my controller is 13 years old with heavy use, so I just gave up on the system entirely. I also didn't buy anything from the shop. Shops are dumb.

But MM11 was a pretty great game. Proving a new take on an old game formula can work.

I think I may like MN9 more than Mega Man 6. I certainly like it more than Mega Man 7 which always felt mildly dysfunctional to me.

It's worse than all the others though. I agree that it's more bland than bad, but MM has some pretty high standards for me.

X8 was good compared to X6 and X7, but yes it's inferior to X1-X4
I also didn't like how two of it's stages are vehicle stages, I hate those
