Picked up the Quest 2 (256gb) last Saturday, wanted a VR unit for so long, my first experience with it, been having a blast all week. Got Vader: Immortal series as my first games, beat that so good. Now I'm playing Lies Beneath and Moss. Have to say both are absolutely amazing. Picked up a 3rd party link cable, some cable pulleys and of course this
awesome VR stand. With Occ Link and Steam VR I also went through my game library on my PC and have a handful of VR capable games. Minecraft, No Mans Sky, Subnautica and Phasmophobia.

Do you have a VR unit? Have you tried VR at all yet?

I played Beat Saber and Lone Echo at a friend's. The tech is getting pretty impressive for sure but it's still a big investment

Don't really want to stub my toe on the coffee table with a screen strapped to my face.

Almost had a friend demolish my flatscreen playing wii darts as it is years ago.

The last thing I need is a device covering my entire field of view while being asked to move.

Bashing my shin into a piece of furniture because my surroundings are totally masked isn't high on my list of things to do for more immersive visuals.

I can eat mushrooms and still navigate my apartment to take a piss if I want to see immersive, weird shit.

I played a little PSVR. If you can, try Trackmania Turbo with it, it has 40 VR levels.

This game also has VR support and is fun to boot. I have a spare key if you are interested.

I've been looking into getting the Quest 2, but I want to try a VR unit before I drop $300+ on it and then find out I can't use it because it makes my motion sickness act up or something.

I'm not a huge fan of VR, I have a 3D headset, but my buddy has a PSVR. No Man's Sky is great with it, it'll be a treat if you're already a fan.

I would pick one up if it were cheaper or if I thought they were going to keep pushing more onto it. As it is, it feels like development for it has been pretty stagnant for a couple of years.

I just don't want it to be a Wii situation where I picked it up, played it for like a week, then never touched it again.

Absolutely. With the Link Cable and a good PC to run it from, yes. The Quest 2 is the first one to run its own game library from its internals, but if you get the cable you are able to play all Steam VR games on it, it just uses the PC to run the game just like Vive and Steams units. I've been thinking of buying Alyx.. I really should I hear its absolutely amazing and I love Half Life

However, Elite Dangerous in VR paired with a HoTaS was fucking amazing.

That's about the only sort of game I can really see appealing to me in a VR sense (at least at the moment). Though I wish there were similar-style games that were less mechanics-intensive than Elite is. Something with the same sort of space flight and exploration mechanics, but less "flight sim" and more like old-school Wing Commander.

Just the idea of kind of sitting back and feeling like you're flying a spaceship casually feels like it could be super-relaxing even without any major gameplay. But it seems like most entries in that genre these days cater to a more "realistic" (or at least complicated) style. It's why I've never been able to really play games like Elite or Stellaris or (god help me) EVE Online in spite of the fact that I'd love a new space-flight game. And why the Star Trek VR game just leaves me kind of cold.

Something like Wing Commander or the old Star Wars fighter games would be awesome in a modernized form. Or the fighter level in Halo: Reach. Or the vehicle parts of Battlefront if they weren't shit. Space dogfighting may not be realistic, but it's fun. Throw in a jump-drive and some galactic exploration and I'd be happy.

Bro I literally played my bro in laws Quest 2 last night. Super hot VR is so fucking sick man.

thing is I had the oculus rift a year or so ago, and just got bored of it so I returned it.

Why did I enjoy the Quest 2 more than the rift? :/

Probably had to do with what games you played on the rift. Unless you found the wired experience super debilitating, there really isn't any difference between the two besides the software.
