I got lucky and most of them decided to group up right on top of each other, so I could spam AoE and Evil Eye to delay them, and then I got a critical on Joshua's turn with full CP and took out all but two of them, and it was smooth sailing from there

At first I thought using the earth accessories would work but that earthquake attack seems to be physical, so I just gave everyone Defense 4 orbments and used Crest to mitigate the damage and had Estelle use AoE heals (only having two characters be able to use arts was rough too). Gave Agate and Zin the wind accessories to boost their damage output. Anyway, glad that's over with!

I accidentally stumbled on the school invasion quest and am now wondering how many side quests I have missed that don't show up on the guild bulletin boards. Got to use Anelace so totally worth it

Also got an accessory that nullifies all status ailments could have used that earlier!

There's usually one per chapter, if I remember right.

Also yeah, that fight is pretty infamous.

Thank the goddess Olivier is back on the squad. This floating city is pretty cool. Kloe's new costume is pretty sweet but not cool enough to get in the party over Agate and Olivier

Josette needs to stop thirsting for Joshua. Got me a gospel (going all the way back to the ship to get Kloe and then back again to drop her off was kind of tedious)

It's always nice to get a fresh fit to keep things interesting, but I actually prefer the classic Olivier look, so I'm not too beat up about it. I would have been fine with either, though!

Once again, I bought the strongest weapons money can buy and forgot to equip them. I've been spoiled by games asking of you want to equip directly after purchase! Then after I equipped them I immediately got a better sword for Agate. Just flushing mira down the toilet

Josette is a fun character. It's dumb that she's useless in battle, but I guess it's meant to highlight the difference between your party and someone like her. It's easy enough to avoid battles or just win with only three characters at this point in the game.

I'm not a big fan of Josette's character type. Also, the Joshua thing feels forced and unnecessary.

Yeah it hasn't been an issue and her defense debuff actually came in handy a few times but I'd rather have basically anyone else!

Also Julia and Mueller are weaker than my main party I expected better

Not that I think it impacts this, but IIRC they weren't playable characters in the original PC release. They were added for the PSP SC release (and XSEED manged to include them in their PC port)

man I'm kinda not looking forward to the newer entries (only played up to Sky 3rd)

the characters in the Sky trilogy all felt real with the female characters being strong and well written and not just thrown in as cardboard cutout harem heroines

I mean I'm as deep into "full anime" degeneracy as anyone else, but Trails felt special

I made quick work of the first two enforcers, but Luciola was pretty tough. I imagine if I specced for ADF it would be a lot easier, but I managed to beat her on my first try after things looked bleak early.

Also, I used Agate's Dragon Dive and for some reason it killed Estelle and Joshua, and then later I used the art that lowers ADF of all enemies and it hit two of my party members. What was that about?

I think there was a thing she was doing where if you hit her clones, it hit your party members instead. And there are similar iterations of this swapping / self-hurting thing later in the series, too.

So they wanted you to be doing things to test which clone is real, like basic attacks or debuffs.

EDIT: And having the Information quartz on might have even helped, IIRC

That's what I thought, yeah. I mean, it's pretty obvious which one is real cause the clones are all wavy. I do have the Information quartz equipped but I didn't notice anything about that

I was tempted to use the continue option but I beat him on my second try. He didn't spam clone as much which made it easier, but I also used Clock Down on him which helped a lot. Used Clock Up on Olivier so I could actually get Zodiac off, then just spammed S-Crafts for victory.

Also I believe when I started the battle Joshua and Estelle were level 89 and Agate and Olivier were 88 but Joshua and Estelle gained 1 level to 90 and Agate and Olivier ended up at 92 somehow. Wut?

You get more experience at lower levels so it's possible for characters with less experience to pass up another depending on how close they are to leveling up.

It's based on the difference in your level to the enemy's level and and Loewe's internal level is pretty high - IIRC like 95. So if you came in at 88-89 I can totally see the scaling starting to ramp up there such that the difference between 6 levels and 7 levels back is literally double the raw EXP so if Agate/Olivier were a high 88 and Estelle/Joshua a low 89 that could totally happen lol.

Cold Steel > Sky SC > Sky FC

The Good: I was not a fan of the Estelle and Joshua romance at the end of FC, but I have to admit it ended up working out pretty well. The beach scene and the last scene were two of my favorites in the game. As a result, I came away liking both of them quite a bit more. The cast is very solid overall and most of the characters improved from the first entry. I am a big fan of the Trails battle system and it was good other than a few minor complaints but not as good as Cold Steel (which makes sense). Music is, of course, top notch as always.

The Bad: The plot was kinda meh. The whole "do an experiment and then run away" thing got stale quick. Most of the villains did essentially nothing and their motives weren't very clear. I have always hated boss battles where the following cutscene is your party rekt and the boss just fine even if you rolled them and the whole "lol i wasn't even trying" thing, and they really went overboard with it. Also, sometimes the dialogue goes on longer than it needs to.

You might want to get used to this if you plan on ever going back to Cold Steel. Just sayin'...

Hajimari has replaced that trope with you do the same boss fight from both sides when you get to the same point in different routes
