I think this rhetoric only works if it's literally been that long. When it has literally only been the first line then it's pointless and dishonest rhetoric.

You can't say "I told you so" about a whole term when it hasn't been the whole term.

red has a valid point that it's only been two months. Tony has a valid point that they should have been prepared to make more progress than they have. Let's not dismiss it all completely as if it's already said and done, though.

Sure, it's certainly possible things happen different this time, but the reason people feel jaded and like they know exactly how all of this will play out in the future is that we all lived through the Obama years and see everything happening all over again the same way and don't see any reason to think it will be different this time. It could be different, but it doesn't seem like it.

The focus on $600 just shows you arent someone that is actually hurting in this pandemic. You just like to whine.

I mean that's more on dumb people not understand how legislation works than it is on Biden. "Early March" is basically immediately by government standards. It was clearly a high priority. It isn't Biden's fault people are too dumb to understand that!

I mean it is his fault that he didn't commit to a more generous or recurring package or push for better unemployment but I don't blame his for the timing because this was what most people assumed was best case scenario.

It's Biden's fault that he campaigned on "$2000 checks will go out immediately" while all the time knowing that it wouldn't be "immediate" or $2000. If you aren't capable of effectively getting your message across to voters, that's your personal failing and not on the voters for being too dumb to understand you.

They could have passed $2000 checks immediately but it would mean losing literally everything else in this bill as you'd still need to burn the reconciliation process

I get complaining about the $1400 instead of $2000

I'm trying to say that if someone is upset by their messaging being unclear, that is on them being unclear, not on the voter for not understanding the meaning in spite of the messaging.

Good point, do any of the people here who keep going on about "Where's my money?" actually desperately need these checks to survive? I suspect those who really do need them are just going more glad it got done rather than hold a grudge forever because it took almost six whole weeks for the bill to pass.

All of the proposals were about changing the $600 check in the December bill into $2000 checks. You literally had one of the Squad members (I forget which) sponsoring a bill to make exactly that change, not a change to $2600. $600 ending up going out, and $2000-$600=$1400.

It was an intentional choice to advertise it as $2000 because it sounds better, and not a single person who misunderstood did so because they couldnt add 1400 and 600.

I just don't think the amount of people that were supposedly confused and feel betrayed over it is that high, considering how high support of the bill is. I saw people complain about it on Twitter, but they were people that were apparently well off enough to spend their days posting "where's my money" memes, so it's hard to take that as much proof of anything.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have just done $2000 anyway, they obviously should have, but painting it as this big lie/betrayal doesn't seem to mesh with the actual reception.

I do think it is fair to call it a lie, even if you assume all voters were aware it was a continuation of the earlier $600 given that they have changed the income eligibility on this check. Having said that, I agree it won't have much of an impact on voters given the bill is still very popular.

They actually increased eligibility for people who need it with this stimulus bill over the original $600.

There are definitely people who received the $600 check who will not be receiving this check. I think it's safe to say those people were lied to. I don't know if it's a large cohort of people, but denying it just is rejection of reality.

Its a large cohort of people making above $75000.

Meanwhile people making under $75000 are now eligible for the extra payments for adult dependents. This stimulus expanded the share of payments going to people really hurting.

Manchin's at it again, guys.

Manchin said that with all the debt were piling up, hes worried about a tremendous deep recession that could lead into a depression if were not careful. Were just setting ourselves up.

He talked up an array of tax increases, including raising the corporate tax rate from the current 21% to 25% at least, and repealing a lot of the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy.

...Though, I guess since they already gave into him once, they may as well do it again...
