The opening scene alone puts Hayden Christensen out as basically phoning the performance in. McGregor is doing his best to give some goddamn emotion, and Hayden is just acting like, well, an amateur acting robot

Fuck the decent story this prequel finally had, the implementation sucked

That's true, but even given the god awful writing, he could have at least tried. It's hammy dialog, so make it hammy. Don't just read it off like you're already a cyborg, that part hasn't happened yet lol. Like i said, Ewan knew what was up and ran with it

Well, that didn't really bother me, since it could easily just be figurative and/or Ani found some fairly useless metric like how high he could lift a rock or something because he's Ani and he does things that don't make sense.

But being able to find a rationalization for one line is a drop in the dang ocean with this movie, lol.

The only realistic part so far is his reaction to her pregnancy

The "oh shit" ambivalence as you process, then comping by saying it's wonderful... real stuff right there

From my point of view the jedi are evil

Reminder that George Lucas managed to turn Oscar winning actress Natalie Portman into a cringe factory. He's a very talented director when it comes to sucking the charisma out of a room.

In general, the PT tries high as it can to quantify the concept of force power in a no less dumb way than asking Vegeta what the scouter says.

The question, though, is how do you measure a jedi's power level. It's like if Rocky showed up at the end of Rocky III and told Clubber Lang "my boxing skills have doubled!" I mean, he could say it, but it would be a really weird thing to say and the only logical conclusion is that he was just speaking figuratively to make the point that he's improved by a lot.

He was allowed to feel real emotion for the first several years of his life and then had to adapt the jedi teachings of being bland and stiff. So that's what he is, some real dude who is trying to act like things don't get to him. Additionally, he's had zero examples of healthy relationships in his life, so his cringe game with Padme is to be expected. He's trying to express himself in ways the jedi forbid him from doing, while also totally oblivious as to how to do it.

Basically, if Anakin had charisma, it'd be sus.

From a story perspective, I can see that. He was taken in late, clearly had some emotional issues (see AOTC), and is clinging to Padme and scared shitless of what might happen but can't talk to his peers about it.

I just can't help but notice his utter lack of personality compared to the other Jedi. Obi-wan was presumably raised "properly" from a young age and he's expressive as all get out. Even Mace Windu, in his big money 15 minutes of screen time, manages to be more believable. I'll grant that by the end when Anakin flips he's turned on his emotion switch, but goddamn, before that it's just a slog for me.

Hayden doesnt phone it in, hes just not very skilled as an actor. Look at his other performances

Natalie Portman TOTALLY phones it in. Shes one of the best actresses of her generation and phones it in from the first film

Dialogue was dookie turd so Im not blaming but the original Star Wars had equivalent dialogue and managed to be one of the greatest films of all time
