Did you ever have a waterbed?

The 80s and early 90s were a wild time

I misread the question. If I answered it properly (no but i wanted one) this would've been 25/25/25/25. sigh

I had a waterbed with a mattress top when I was a teenager. Eight tubes full of water placed into a section on the box and the mattress section secured on top.

Don't know if that's still a thing but it was super comfortable but hard to get out of.

There's so much 80s nostalgia in media but I can't recall ever seeing a waterbed recently.

You would think it would have popped up in Stranger Things by now or something.

My cousin in another state had one in the early 90s
The story was that it popped and leaked everywhere and possibly though the ceiling/down steps.

Only saw it once and sat on it. I did want one yes.
He was an edgy dude, so I am sure there is more to the story as to why it popped.

I don't think I've ever actually seen one in person, but I also wasn't born in the 80s or early 90s. All I can ever think about when I see one though is how much of a disaster it would be if the water got out, so I don't know if I'd ever be comfortable owning one.

My friend had one. It was comfortable to sit on while playing video games at his house.

I never really had an interest in them, though.

My dad remarried after my mom died. My stepmother had one that she swore by, so I got an education of sorts on waterbeds. Apparently they're pretty hard to find these days. You have to really go out of your way to find them.

That makes sense with this line on the Wikipedia article:

The modern version, invented in San Francisco and patented in 1971, became a popular consumer item in the United States through the 1980s with up to 20% of the market in 1986[1] and 22% in 1987.[2][3] In 2013 they account for less than 5% of new bed sales.[4]

Though I'm surprised it was even 5% that recently.

I had one all the way up until about 4 years ago. For most of it's life it was nice and pretty comfortable but there were definitely aspects of it that were a pain in the ass. I didn't move much but but draining and filling a bed and moving the frame sucks. If something happened to the heater it is impossible to sleep on water that is too hot or too cold, nice as it may sound. Also at the end it developed a slow leak that couldn't be easily patched. Overall would not recommend and I'm happy with my regular ass bed now.

My parents had one when I was a kid, and I remember wanting one. Now as an adult who has done research on various mattress types, I've since renounced that desire. They apparently are prone to malfunction after a while, and the water, while conforming, offers little actual support so back and join pains are common.
