I love fighting games but ONLY the multiplayer aspect. I can't stand fighting the stupid AI which can be beaten with literally one finger while playing with your eyes closed (I literally did this in UMvC3). That's why I can never truly connect with the people who wanted an arcade mode in BBTAG. It's just the braindead AI except you see numbers above the characters' health bars.

But fighting games are pretty much the only genre of competitive multiplayer games I like. They're my least favorite part of the many mobile games I play.

I used to like them more when I had bullshit amounts of time when in school, however now that I am an adult it is mostly a waste of time to me. SP, coop, and MP where you fight as a team against the AI is where its at now.

Have no time for the fuckery of competitive MP, I play games to relax and have fun, competitive MP is none of those things.

Depends on the genre and what kind of competition we're talking.

Love playing competitive card games like Magic, PvPvE shooters like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt Showdown, fighting games, racing games.

Can't stand stuff like Call of Duty or R6S (although Siege is an excellent game, just not for me).

Online killed it for me.

I think it's because in the days before online gaming, you only had to be a similar skill level to your friends. Often this meant playing people of a similar skill level to yourself, because they'd be likely to invest a similar amount of time in a game.

Online you've got everything from people who don't understand the basics of the game to people who dedicate all of their time to it. Neither is fun to play against.

When it comes to competitive play I prefer games like chess where I have time to think and strategize before making my move, real time games make me feel way to anxious

What I never really understood are the people who like really hard single player games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, etc for the difficulty but hate competitive multiplayer. If you like to challenge yourselves in games, you cant get a harder challenge than competitive multiplayer. The odds are high that you will hit a ceiling that will take major effort to push through or you never will.

You think Sekiro is hard? Try to get to the highest ranks in CS:GO, Overwatch, Chess, etc. That is true difficulty

I hate them. I barely ever game, and when I do, I prefer single player or co-op games. I'm almost 34, I don't game often, and my reflexes have gone to shit, so I don't like competitive games.

Eh that only works if the person your fighting takes the game seriously, that shit will do nothing to a casual player or someone who is just playing to try something different.

Team killing gets under the skin of serious and casual players alike, and I have the hate messages to prove it from all walks of life gamers. Ruining that guys 16 kill streak to deny him a helicopter he is mad, shooting a person as they take 5 steps out of spawn he is pissed off. Mocking them, killing them again and again before the customary tea baging ? that person is raging.

It never fails to make me laugh and it always gets results, you cant say that for your fighting game tactic.

C, couldn't care less about proving myself or making other people feel bad about themselves. I play games almost exclusively for story, and sometimes strictly for gameplay. Multiplayer never even crosses my mind

I always thought about getting into Rainbow. I couldnt on Console because I play with a Legacy stick layout and they dont offer it when every other shooter the past decade plus did.

I can play on PC but I always wonder if Im holding my team back. I mean, my aim is decent IMO but probably trash compared to average PC players. Im also concerned about not knowing all the mechanics and pissing my team off royally.

Overwatch has a ton of different mechanics but it is more casual to a new player and you arent being heavily relied on to perform when you dont know what you are doing. Im a long time Overwatch player so that hasnt been a problem but Im just trying to compare. The Rainbow issue feels like the same issues you would have jumping into CS:GO, Valorant or any MOBA new. I can just see how toxic people can get

This topic makes me think back to the days of the MW2 lobbies and how most people today would not be able to handle them.

I enjoy playing a few racing games or Smash Bros with friends and my girlfriend, but I can't do competitive online. And it's practically impossible nowadays anyways because every online game is filled with kids with more free time and faster reflexes than me. I'd have to work part-time just to be competitive. Co-op is more my thing.

Like 1v1 fighters if you you lose you have noone but to blame but yourself. You got outplayed. But in teambased it gets really easy to blame teammates and it tends to get toxic.

I don't care too much for modern shooters, but the old arena ones and the first three gears of war games?.....man I was on those shits all the time, lol. If I wasn't playing phantasy star online on the dreamcast/gamecube/xbox/PC and phantasy star universe on the 360, I was on quake 3 arena, unreal championship, return to castle wolfenstein, unreal championship 2, gears of war 1, 2, and 3, and left 4 dead 1 and 2 on the 360.

I was also big into the fighters that was online capable on the OG xbox, capcom vs snk 2 eo and guilty gear accent core. Guilty gear's xbox port's online was jank as fuck, but goddammit it was online guilty gear and I made anji and ky work, lol.

Also, the old OG xbox halo 1 LAN parties had to be some of the most gaming fun I ever had. I used to go with my brother to his friend's and co-worker's place...I would bring my xbox and copy of halo 1 with 4 controllers, and everyone else there brought their xboxs and TVs, and we used to be doing CTF blood gulch and sidewinder games and team deathmatch on that one map that was 2 different sides in space and had the teleporting doors everything. Good ass times.

If you look almost any moba streamer, any csgo/valorant/call of duty streamer ect.. they seem to be in a bad mood, complaining about their team, and being miserable 90% of the time. Sure they're having fun/are in a good mood that 10% of the time, but is it worth putting up with that kinda bullshit? Personally I don't think so.

EDIT: By competitive, I mean any player vs player multiplayer game, be it the ones mentioned above, a sports game like madden, WoW pvp, destiny pvp, ect.. Anything that pits players against each ot her instead of them working solo or cooperatively together.

I don't outright dislike it, but it never holds my interest long, even when I'm playing with friends. Gaming has always been a solo thing for me.

online with randos with massive power or skill gaps isn't that fun -- random matchmaking and games with pay/grind to win mechanics.

When it's casual, couch play, or has good match making -- it can be loads of fun.

Nah, tons of toxic players in 1v1 fighters because people dont want to blame themselves. Ive played tons of button mashing idiots who lose to the dumbest shit and call me cheap. Like sometimes in BBTAG Ill just stand in place doing one move, and instead of blocking and punishing, or going right through with a super or other invincible move, or just jumping over it, theyll run into it, over and over then bitch about how OP it is, or how spamming it was cheap lol

Like, I get that some people want to play casually, but this isnt even something that needs practicing; its just fucking common sense. If something keeps getting you hurt, maybe dont do it 20 times in a row?
