Casuals don't really exist in fighting games. Like, if you're below the skillgate of competence, you die in 12 seconds and have no idea why. This leads people seeking to try online to having a very bitter, brief experience, and this is why fighting games will forever be a niche genre. In 700+ matches of GG, I have had maybe 7 fights with newbies.

I'm in a Similar boat. I like a few online multiplayer games, but I prefer singleplayer unless it's a good couch co-op that I can play with friends.
