So I did...

I killed B... then A denounced me and voted against my aggression :V

A is now at war with me for the consequences of them asking me to go to war...

...

So I killed them both

The best action in Civ against the AI is usually inaction.

Presumably, the problem is that you won the joint war. They didn't just want B to be killed, they wanted to take over B's territory. Their ideal for your involvement would have been to whittle every city down to <5% HP, then let them take it over and claim the spoils.

So yeah. Just kill them both.

Yeah, the AI in Civ is often ridiculous. Like, it would make sense to have otherwise neutral civs applaud your aggressions (due to their own bloodthirsty desires).

That said, thank god they made it so you can tell them to never ask you for a specific deal again, and they toned down the insane religion desires of each one.

It's always so frustrating that you can be utterly dominating but peaceful, have the AI get mad and declare a war on you, and then when you curb them, in a war THEY STARTED, OTHER civilizations get mad at you for winning. They swamp you with terrible deals and demands and then get mad when you don't give them gold and art pieces for literally nothing when they're mad at you and denouncing you. It feels like, no matter what you do, it is inevitable that they'll be angry with you no matter what you do by the endgame if not openly warring with you even if you act like a total pacifist and most agreeable person ever.

For me my entire diplomatic strategy in Civ against AIs was always to try and connect with as many different civs as possible, and engage in tons of tech trades that would leave them all slightly better, but which would leave me significantly more advanced then when we started. At which point I'd speed-run the tech tree and occasionally offer an insignificant tech to belligerent cultures for free as a bribe to buy their friendship.

The end result being that I'd far outstrip everyone else, so eventually I'd be using tanks and rockets against their spearmen, or I'd just rush a tech victory while everyone else was still in the Dark Ages.

I rarely ever resorted to war at all, except early on if another civ settled a major city near the heart of my empire, and it was in my way. At which point I'd mostly just declare war in order to eat it. I usually left war for the other nations to sort out on their own.

Usually whenever I tried any form of tech agreement it just resulted in them declaring war on me using the technology I gave them/got through the research agreement.
