Choose your choice

I know its a hot button issue and Im sorry Im not trying to start a whole thing. But Ive heard different arguments about this over the years and Im curious if theres any general consensus.

Edit: dang it meant to put an Other option at the bottom since Im sure some people might have an opinion not represented or not care about the subject at all

No

*edit* when singing along, I substitute 'playa' or 'fucka' depending on which sounds better on a song to song basis.

I can think of two bands with that word in one of their songs. X(Los Angeles) and The Offspring(LAPD) and I've heard no complaints given the context used in the songs.

it depends how many black people are around

lolnojk because i dont actually give that much of a fuck

If you actually subscribe to the only a certain type of person can/should say a certain word type of thinking, youre basically saying that certain portions of vocabulary can only be owned/utilized by certain types of people

When anyone can do whatever they want

Its basically just guy or dude, though not something you would throw around if you care about the PC comfort of your immediate listener

I actually considered using yiff instead of fuck unironically just for the hilarious factor

Go yiff yourself, PC culture

They can, but its really fucking cringe if they do.

The real question a white person should ask themselves is why they would even want to use that word in the first place. Whether singing along to a song or in another context altogether.

This instantaneously makes me think of that girl white girl that was brought up on stage during a Kendrick Lamar concert and was expected to take place of the rapper and be rap the lyrics but she got kicked out as soon as she said N-word (slang version, not hard R).

I feel like its kind of musical segregation.

Then I also think back to when I went to Job Corps and 90% of the people were black but no one had an issue with the spanish dude saying n-a because he grew up in an urban setting where its used as much as were you to replace it with the word dude. I never felt comfortable saying it because I didnt grow up in a urban setting despite being hispanic.

In any case I dont really feel strongly about it either way.

I think its a gray area, if its a song you like and youre with people who know its not coming from a place of hate then I think its ok, but if you arent willing to sing it in front of your black friends then you should probably not do it at all imo

I know there was a story a few years ago where a musician called a girl onto stage and she was singing along with him but she was white and she sang the N word when he did. The crowd went nuts and booed her and he stopped her and said she needed to use a different word when she was singing along. I think that was really awkward and unfair to her. If youre an artist and you put a word like that in your song then I think youve gotta know that all different types of people are probably gonna be singing your music.

If someone is using it to intentionally or happens to incidentally piss someone off, and is aware of it, that's completely different

Reminds me of the guy getting smacked with the soda can video

I mean you'd just be asking for it at that point, like if you're using a word to "fit in" or "be cool" or then you just keep on saying it to "put it in their face"

Some people are just used to saying it casually, and non-offensively, without repercussion

But it's a non-essential habit, considering all the controversy, I must admit

For anyone, because that's how my stance on this works

If you actually adopted it's usage without racial bias, then everyone is that word

...but you don't actually have to say it around people... or at all

but it comes out sometimes, mainly if I'm just thinking lazily

or hazily

or offended

but that's kind of how some words work

They just come out

anyway this is too much usage scenario description for such a simple word

imo

ill just stop now

also i know y'all saw that filthy frank video and i just thought it was hilarious

Depends on who you around and how much you want to make things awkward as well as how much you want to subconsciously train your brain to naturally say things that you might not want to roll off the tongue in an off moment?

If there was ever a moment I could say "I'm not black I can't answer that", because I'm not the one affected when someone throws around a slur that's not directed at me

Imo no I would never do that

My opinion: Only if the song is actually playing since not saying it would ruin the song if you were singing along in the first place - CAVEAT, have the foresight to not sing along from the start

Secondly, if it's on the radio and the radio typically omits it then also omit it
